sorry forks, apparently they swapped right before publishing the '09 rules. Catless is still m4. One new LSD is allowed in prepared, though, in case a certain somebody wants to wimp out.
I won't be wimping out. The Legacy will be stripped and caged by the end of the summer, so I figure I might as well start out in M4 even if it's not competitive. That way I don't have to lose the few points I do accumulate by switching classes mid year again.
I think Mark U said that the cat thing was a mistake in printing, and that perhaps there would be a bulletin, but I'm not sure. I know that we were surprised to find it at the planning meeting.
Worst case, it'll put you in Mod. It's not like the car really makes the difference. Look at the fastest AWD car. A wrinkled up ugly old 2.5RS. The two fastest 2WD cars probably have a combined value of under $2k. The hardware that really matters is the nut behind the wheel.
Yeah, I've never rallx'd, so I know i wont be too competative, but I was just wondering how high it would bump me haha
Who says the Legacy isn't competitive? I seem to recall one beating you and your newer "faster" car in the last event of the year (I thought I'd start the trash talk early ) Amy
One stinking cone I'm sure with all the skills I have I'll be doing just fine. I was just referring to the lack of car prep for M4
SCCA needs to create some type of diagram or flow chart starting with "stock" and the LH side and spreading out to different classes towards the right in terms of mods done. Their Ulysses of a rule book is worse than reading tax statutes. I have no experience and a Stage Pi WRX wagon so I'm hosed regardless...(but still really looking forward to it!).
Spoon feed me please. So where do I end up with a VF39, catted TBE and ALK other than having fun while hopelessly uncompetitive?
There are only three classes, stock, prepared, and modified (along with drivetrain classes for front, rear, and awd). Stock is stock - dress up mods are allowed along with stock size replacement tires/wheels and brakes and such. prepared is bolt-ons like different wheels and tires and intakes and crud. Mod is everything else. Most of us are in mod whether we want to be or not.
No need to fear. It's not like you are publicly beaten or humiliated when you come in dead last... except for Scuba Sally... but he has it coming. I suppose it would be nice if there was a catch-all "novice" group like in autox... but there's really no pressure to do well. Just have fun and use the resources around you... have instructors ride along, ask other competitors questions, walk the course with a more experienced driver, etc... If you're in it to be competitive, then classing shouldn't hardly matter. As mentioned, most of the time (especially at the local level) the driver is going to be more important than the car.
Don't worry about it - i'm in M4 and the only thing a vf39 would do in my car is rattle around in the hatch.
that's what I told you.....when I was reading you a bed time story....last night pink slips? you're on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i'm co-driving dan's car, but he won't mind)
What the heck? They've got an update on the SCCA website. http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=50 Catless is legal in preprared. Why the F did they put an update on the site without updating the rules PDF.
Because once the rules are published, they're published. I believe they actually print those things, so it's important for the "official" copies to match. You'll find pretty much all racing organizations do this. They publish a rulebook, and if changes are made after the publication date, they're done as bulletins. Nobody changes the master document until the next year's version.
yeah so dan, how do you feel about this arrangement? i feel pretty good. i'm team pedo-kitty all the way baby. just don't lose. ps: yeah oops, sorry i'm lazy about logging in. i just printed out the rule book the other day and the memo so i could have saved some debate about this.
Damn....I was hoping for my sake that you catless guys had to go in Mod class. Oh well. It makes sense since it really doesn't add much in the way of HP/Torque. One question, though, re: rules: Would group-n (or other) strut mounts change one from prep'd to mod'd? The rules say dampers/springs must use stock mounting positions, doesn't say anything (?) re: changed mounts. ????
Prepared classes I'm assuming? My reading is that the tophat is part of the suspension assembly and can be replaced (it specifically says that camber plates are allowed, for instance), so the Group-N mounts should be fine. I dunno if some rules lawyer at nationals would piss and moan about the wording, but locally you'll be fine.
Thanks! I'm not sure if I'll be replacing them when I install my STi springs w/tokico dspecs, but I wanted to know if I should even bother looking into it more. I want to stay in prep'd with my car - 25k/year DD.
