Hey all, I've been doing some searching on these bushings put tigether with a STS and it seems quite a few people report that with a stiffer bushing like a Kartboy bushing, you will hear more gearbox noise inside the car itself. Have any of you experienced that? How bad are we talking here?

Also, when you install the bushing do you need just the $30 one here for the combo for an 05 WRX?

    Thanks!

I believe the front bushing helps the shifts engage better and the rear bushings help direct the shifts better.

FYI: I am selling my Kartboy rear shift bushing and screws for $20 if you're interested.

Doh! There are no additional noises heard from installing this kit. ...maybe a bit more vibrations to the shifter, but a few of us here know that it's bad to rest your hand on the shifter while you're driving anyways. (you know who you are  ;) )

The front and rear bushings make the combo. Subaru never changed the geometry of the shift linkage as far as the L/RS/OBS/Legacy/WRX goes. Maybe the Sti was changed, but I'm not sure.

I replaced the FRONT and REAR shifter bushings and installed the COBB double adjustable short throw, and a STI group N tranny mount... I do hear a slight noise while crusing on super flat pavement while in gear, if I push the clutch in or put it in neutral I dont hear it, but I think its more the tranny mount than shifter bushings. If you have the windows open or radio on you'll never hear it. And yes, you need the FRONT/REAR combo, note to the guy who installs it.... for the rear bushing thread the passenger side bolt first, and for the front bushing while removing the factory one remember that the factory bushing is one piece, and can prove to be difficult to remove. Get the car up as high as you can.

OK thanks for the information guys. I am glad I asked because I thought I would jsut need the single bushing and not the combo.

I just installed the front bushing set for myself and a friend recently. I had the STi 5-spd short shifter for my WRX previously w/ the stock rubber one-piece. I still don't feel any difference in the shift itself. Driving in gear seems to transmit more vibration into the stick.

I don't really get it because if stay which the bushings isolate is not moving during shifts. It's just a static support that holds up the bottom of the shift lever. So I personally don't see/feel the benefit. Maybe I need to replace the rear bushing too.

I am thinking I will just do the STS for now and see how that feels. Unless other people say otherwise and it is one of those things to "do while you're in there" and just get it done.

Fong, is the rear bushing the one at the END of the linkage? The new one that Kartboy just made?
