http://lsprorally.com/ http://rally-america.com/events/2011/OTRR/ The Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR) is happening October 14 & 15 out of Houghton, MI. This is the last "close" rally to Minnesota for a few months so take the opportunity to come out and see some classic fall rally action! There are currently 30 cars entered. Rallies are always in need of volunteer workers, so sign up if you want the best seat in the house! A few MNSubaru members will be up there. Most of the Ziptie Rally Team will be leaving Thursday early A.M. - we'll be debuting a new Open Class GC8 car at LSPR. Dan Drury is also co-driving car #378. Hope to see some more of you up there. We're staying at the Super 8. -Carl #171
Hmmmm... Seeing how I took time off for OFR and didn't get my rally fix, maybe I'll have to give it another go with this one...
it's the default if you don't register with a car. I didn't have the VIN handy so I couldn't put the new car in the RA database yet
Oh man I can't wait to get on the stages. Carl, what time are you leaving? I wouldn't mind caravanning with you.
Assuming all goes well between now and then, I'm hoping to roll out of the cities around 9am Thursday. Might leave earlier if I end up with a pressing reason to, but my wife I'm sure would prefer to not have to get both kids out the door alone for two days if possible. Which would put me in Houghton mid-afternoon, most likely.
Carl, Well 4am sucks but it is about when I need to leave as well. Hopefully we can meet in Forest Lake like most rallies. Mark, If you are still looking for a codriver I think Tim Anderson or Jesse Lang may be interested.
Work priorities will be getting in the way of leaving Thursday night or even early Friday morning. Probably heading out at 9:00am Friday if I'm lucky. I'm looking forward to the drive though. One of my favorites stretches of roads in the Midwest is from Hayward to Hurley/Ironwood; especially the part through the Chequamegon Forest on County Road GG from Clam Lake to Mellon. Travel safe everyone - be on the lookout for critters.
Can't wait for LSPR action, hopefully all I'll need to do is check tire pressure and fill carl's car with gas. Look out for cops from hayward to ironwood, the two time's ive been pulled over on that trip have both been within 5 miles of Mellon, luckily no ticket, just a slow down and get the hell out of here. also keep in mind the time change, you will lose an hour driving up there.
This year was a brutal rally. Only 18 out of 40 cars finished the first day. Constant rain made the stages ridiculously muddy and slick to the point some cars got stuck on the stage roads. We went out on stage 4 after hitting a large tree at speed. We were running as high as 13th overall when we went off. Here are some pics of the damage.
Yah, Friday was scary. The in car of you guys passing us if funny, you were fishtailing at like 30 mph. I was fighting the car the whole stage, my arms were like noodles after. Too bad you guys went out, Saturday was a lot of fun. In other news, did anybody get any pictures of my car on Saturday?
Do you have the in car posted somewhere? I'd like to see it. The mud was so bad on that stage we thought the clutch gave out. Turns out it was just that slick. Funny thing is we had a half spin into a ditch less then a mile after we went around you. Slowest "off" ever.
Here is a link to my YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/drnenappes?feature=mhee I have all of the forward facing stage videos loaded. I am still working on my dash cam videos. I almost went off so many times on that stage. The car would just go dead stick for 100 yards, and I would be helpless to do anything but hope while sawing the wheel back and forth like a crazy person.
SS03 was nutty to watch. You're not kidding about the description of what's going on while trying to keep it in a straight line.
