Any one going besides me? My plan it to volunteer to help banner and marshall. It would be fun to caravan from Duluth either Thursday afternoon or Friday early a.m. Here is the web site. http://www.lsprorally.com/
I have rooms reserved, but im not sure if im going to go for sure yet. Doesnt look like my subaru will be ready by them, if I go I will be goin thru duluth and could meet up with you guys
It's about a 6-7 hour drive up to Houghton. I've got a job up near Green Bay that week so I'll be there for Saturday at least. Do we know yet if the stages around L'Anse and Baraga will be run Friday or Saturday? I'll be driving through that area on my way up to Houghton Friday night.
The link for workers is finally up. http://www.lsprorally.com/workers.html I don't yet have a place to stay reserved. I better get on it. Rich, have any room to spare? When are people looking to go up? I was thinking Thursday a.m. so I can maybe help do some bannering Thursday as well (more time driving on the course, whee!). I'll be going from Brainerd and through Duluth.
I'll be there, leaving Minneapolis Thursday afternoon, speding the night at our cabin near Iron River and making my way up to Houghton on Friday morning. If you haven't already reserved a room, you're not going to have much luck until people start releasing ones they're not using just before the rally. When I reserved a month or so ago, it was getting pretty lean (nothing at HQ, only single or smoking rooms at the S8). Last year I ended up staying at some fleabag dump of a motel north of Houghton/hancock the first night. Was very convenient to Saturday's stages, as the transit went about 50' from my room on the way north. Got a room for Sat night only at the S8, which is great staggering distance from The Library. I'm hoping to maybe work Gratiot on Saturday, so I can go have lunch at the Gay Bar (for those of you not in the know, there is only one bar in the town of Gay, Michigan, and they love to play up the name). Gay, MI is also host to the Gay RallyCross.
Bob Lake and Passmore are listed for Friday, so I'd say yes, the southern stages will run on Friday. Stage Schedule
Bingo! I got a room at the Downtowner, my first call. They told me that room availability is constantly changing.
Thanks Mark, that makes my spectating more convenient as I make my way north that day. My parents decided to build their cabin on the shores of Lake Superior due west of Houghton a couple years ago so I'm fortunate enough to have wonderful accomodations available to me for free only 10 minutes from town. However MEA weekend has coincided with the race almost every year so they'll be up there as well otherwise I'd open it up to folks here who want to help out at the event. If ever they're not up there that weekend I'll turn it into the rally junkie grotto. BTW the Library has gone to pot. The food there was not near as good as it once was when I was up there in July. The beer is still good, but I've been frequenting the Keweenaw Brewing Co. instead. $2 pints and free wireless but no food. One of the best hefes I've ever had though. I heard they're opening a pizza place next door with a shared door and patio seating so you can have your food "delivered" next door to the pub. You can be certain to find me there whenever I'm idle during the weekend, however I'll be sans GT since I'm flying up there
Who eats at the Library? The Library is about the people, and drinking heavily and telling lies about rally adventures. And the last two years, the MN contingent has gotten the same, very good waitress, who has treated us remarkably well for how we've collectively made asses of ourselves (but we've tipped very well too. I think. 2004 involved memory loss on my part. And fire. The fire wasn't my doing though. Mostly). (edit to clarify: the fire was not inside the Library, it was in the lot in back).
http://www.lsprorally.com/spectating.html Stages 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 all have a spectator spot on Friday, so it should be pretty easy to make at least one.
I will be at the event with the Mustang. I fully intend to cram for my Sunday exam on Saturday night at the Library (they serve food?!?!?!?!?). Come on down and crack a book with us why don't ya.
Current forecast for the area arround LSPR: Too bad it'll likely all (or most anyhow) be gone by the time the race happens. Gonna mount up the Hakkas for sure.
I'm planning on heading up again. It's always a good time. Anyone going should put one of the MNSubaru Spotted logos in their windows like last year. Helps meeting up with people on the drive up or while up there.
Awesome, I'll meet all you guys up here. I go to school here at MTU, so I'll defintaly be going. Can't Wait!!
I'll be at the Keweenaw Brewing Co any free time I have. The LGT will be back in Dallas though. I'll have whatever the rental car place up there has, probably a G6 again.
Anyone hear from a local up there how much snow they are actually getting or supposed to get by next Thursday?
So for everyone heading up, when are you leaving? I'm planning for very early Friday morning so I can catch all of the stages.
I'm leaving late morning on Thursday, because I have a meeting in Houghton that evening. Don't forget that Houghton is on Eastern time, not Central, so you lose an hour in the drive! The rally schedule is entirely in EDT, even though some of the Friday stages are probably actually in the central zone.
I think only the four counties that border WI are still CST, so Gogebic is as close as it gets. I can't head up until I drop my team off at the airport in Green Bay at 3pm Friday. I'll be passing through the area for Friday's stages so if I'm not exhausted I'll be stopping through L'Anse.
I am heading up from Brainerd early Thursday a.m. I can still meet in Duluth but I have to be in Kenton at 1 p.m. to help with bannering. The time zone thing is killing me and is going to make for a very early departure time in the a.m. I'm half tempted to leave Wednesday after lunch. Jeremy, when are you looking at heading out? Do you want to come help banner?
We are leaving from Stacy at about 10:00 am local so look for the white pick-up pulling the red Mustang. Wave as we blow by (grin).
Yeah, my family has a cabin near Iron River, so that's where I spend 99% of my time in the UP. It never occured to me before my first LSPR that the time zone would change within the UP (especially when heading largely north, not much east). So, here I am, heading for Parc Expose, and there's a steady stream of rally cars headed the other way... But I still had to go into Houghton to get the spectator location directions...
