Anyone host or attend LAN parties in the TC area? I use to in WI and I really miss it. I just moved to Crystal MN and Im having a hard time finding things to do or people to hang with. Just wanted to find some fellow PC nerds. Oh and Ive seen those pre- built LAN places. They look retarded LOL. Kennedy* (Adam)
I have held a couple. Last one I hosted was in 2003, it's been awhile. I'm always up for one, just wouldn't be into hosting it again most likely. A big room full of people playing TF2 would be a blast!
Ugh, no, HATED BF2 with a passion. I kept buying every installment in the Battlefield series, hoping just ONE of them could match up with BF1942's staying power and fun factor, but it never happened. Team Fortress 2 = TF2. The best current multiplayer game IMO. Fun for hours on end.
I ran one last year for our lass's birthday. We used the Davanni's in EP. They have two adjacent party rooms (which cost nothing to use), so we had two different teams playing Unreal Tournament for the evening in their own private space. Good fun, good company, good food. A great time was had by all. We did have some issues with the version of UT we were running causing trouble on newer laptops. I've since upgraded the server with UT2004. But none of the subsequent versions of UT compare to the original in terms of game play. Sure, they're prettier, but they just seem so sluggish by comparison. Stuart.
Hey Stu, how late did they let you guys stick around? I'm looking to throw an open lan party here in the next month or so for my school's chapter of AITP to raise some funds to send some members to a national convention.
we should have Mike Wagner host a Racing Simulator lan party... ha ha get building about another 20 units mike....
Aw, shucks, thanks for noticing  I think we started at 5pm and went until 11pm on a Saturday night. The deal was we had to have everything broken down and out the door by closing time. The guys with laptops were golden, and helped us break down the server/switches/cabling pretty quickly. You'll need to have plenty of power strips and extension leads, too, 'cos there aren't as many power outlets as you might like, and some of them are in bloody funny places. I also made sure to book the rooms well in advance, and bought lots of pizzas/pop/hoagies all night long. We also made sure to put the furniture back where we found it afterwards, too. Stuart.
Hmmm, thinking back, our original plan was to use the party room at The Brunswick Zone, but it was too expensive to use on the weekend. However, I believe Bielke55 works there, so it might be worth having a word with him to see if he can hook you up. Food and a full bar, plus other forms of entertainment for when you need a break. The room does have a divider to split it if you wanted to do the team thing like we did at Davanni's, and there's also a projector in there that I'm sure you could find a use for. Stuart.
Yes, Orange box ftw. Portal is too much fun. And Aegis is hooked on the silly turrets with the cute voice.
Ok im buying the orange box today. I still dont see what everyone is raving about. Oooohhh and can anyone help me with a little steam issue? Im having trouble with some of the software.
Half-Life 2, Episode 1, and Episode 2 stand as some of the best single player gaming on the PC. If those 20 or so hours of gaming aren't worth $50 alone, they toss in Team Fortress 2, which pulls off some of the best team gameplay you can find, hands down. Not a lot of maps yet, but the atmosphere and depth of teamwork that can occur is insane. Then, you get Portal, which I dare you to play for more than an hour and not get hooked. It busts the mold of first-person shooter, by basically being gun-free. A first-person puzzle game I guess you could call it. It is well worth the 3-4 hour run-through, and has one of the most memorable and fun endings of any game in recent memory.
Sweet. I have HL2 but none of the other new steam games. Theres only one problem. Whenever I reinstall my game (Half Life 2). It says my steam account is valid and all but it wont let me play my games. Like I have the game but it still says i need to buy it.
I loves me some half life 2 ... and portal. Obviously. I mean... look at my avatar. And yes fondune. I <3 the man in grey. I also have a soft spot in my heart for Combine Elite soldiers ..
I was looking at The Orange Box at Target the other day, since I have a birthday coming up in a few days. Anybody know if there is any difference between the version that's in an actual orange plastic case, and the one with a black plastic case ? The covers appear to be identical. I suspect it's just one of those marketing things. Stuart.
It is a marketing thing from what I understand. The Orange Box in an orange box just seems cooler, though.
wait ... the BLACK box actually came out?? I mean uh ... I don't know any difference really. I wish, though, that they would have included HL2DM in orange box but ... they did not. And I am sad.
Hmm, I didn't think the Black Box was going to be released. Was the pricing different between the two? Originally the plan was (this is PC only, other platforms only get Orange Box) - Orange: Half-Life 2, HL2:Episode 1, HL2:Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal - $49.99 Black: Half-Life 2, HL2:Episode 1, HL2:Episode 2 - $39.99
A little turret on my desk would rule. Not that they'd go this far, but especially if it talked, heh. "I don't hate you."
haha yes, that. if it talked that would be great, but not necessary. It just has to open and move around.
Anybody get UT3 yet ? I was trying to decide between UT3 and Orange Box, but the horror stories I've heard about Steam have pretty much put me off Orange Box. I'll probably wait until the price drops to $20 and it's on the bargain shelf before I pick it up. I've been a huge UT fan since the original version came out, but was looking for something different. Looks like I'll be sticking with what's familiar for a while yet. Stuart.
Nope, no UT3. You're right, nothing can beat the playability of UT. Steam's not that bad. As long as you've got a good network connection, I wouldn't worry about major problems. I haven't had many issues in the past couple years, although admittedly, my sample size has gone down dramatically .
