just saw this over on RS25. Has anyone heard anything about this car/motor?

"1) First up we have one of the rarest Subaru drivetrains ever! This is a JDM 1991/92 Legacy RS-RA drivetrain.

For those who would like to know more about this particular model:

-This motor was originally built to compete for the land speed record (RA=record attempt)
    -Less than 1000 ever made
-Hand-built and blueprinted by a builder who represented what is now Subaru Tecnica International
    -ej20g
    -Perfectly balanced to clutch/flywheel
    -Hand ported heads. Huge ports
    -Forged rods/pistons
    -Sodium-filled valves
    -Closed deck
    -Over-balanced rotating assembly
    -Gold valve covers
-IHI VF-8 turbo (about the same as a VF-24. RHB5 compressor w/P18 exhaust side)
-Quick ratio 4.11 final drive 5 speed transmission

This motor comes complete with everything, including air-water intercooler, but no exhaust or engine crossmember. Motor/transmission have an astoundingly low 12,000 km!!! $3300 for full swap kit + s/h. $2000 for motor, $1500 for transmission"

Neat, but I'd never buy that. IMHO, if you are doing an ej22t build you'd probably have all of that stuff done anyways (and then some).

looks like a plain old engine to me.

you'd think there would be a bit more fanfare behind such a legendary engine if one were to actually exist.

    RA stood for "Race Altered"

that land speed record is coming straight from his anus. I had STi RA gauges in my old WRX, they certainly didn't go up to land speed record numbers =]

The liberty RS RA gold is nice, but not worth paying extra for.

are you sure it not, LAND SPEED ENDURANCE?

"Just before the introduction of the Legacy to the USA, three Japanese-spec Legacy RS turbo sedans were sent to the FIA test track in Phoenix, Arizona, where they were driven at an average speed of 138.8 MPH for almost 19 days, accumulating 62,138 miles/100,000Km in that time, setting a new world record for land speed endurance, stopping only for fuel and routine service."

If I had the scratch, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The hand porting from the factory is pretty sweet. The crankshaft is signed by the guy who built the motor.

Most people don't know about that motor.

well anyways RA in subaruland stands for Race Altered, as in STi Spec C Type RA etc.

If it were "record attempt" then I'd like to know what record this one is going for:

From my website's brief history of Subaru:
    http://www.4wheelracing.com/cars/subaru/

Actually the Legacy wagon set a speed record for a wagon in September of 1993 with an average speed of 155.33 mph. And yes, just before their 1989 release here they did the 100k km endurance in Phoenix. 3 of them did this, but I don't think there was a speed record. However if this is one of the engines of the initial 1000 run and there were a way to prove this then you would certainly have one heckuva collectable.

I've seen Liberty RS-RA engines go on sale before, they're certainly kind of far from treasured collectibles though. They barely command more than the stock EJ20g does.

There were only 1000 built. I'd pay the premium. I'm not shure everyone else would though.
