Anyone done it? how much did it cost you? i have an apt. on tuesday and just wanted to know if it's worth it for some of you or not. I have a buddy that had them done and said he paid $3000 and he started going blind a couple of years. Now he's wearing contacts. So, is it really worth it?
Well, your eyes will change, so you are better off waiting till you get a bit older. If your eyes are not changing very much every year, then it would be worth looking into. Russ
I'm wearing glasses now and my vision is getting blurry. should i look into contacts maybe since my eyes are changing?
my eye sight gets worse ever year ever since I was in 1st grade. I've been wanting to do this real bad but it seems high for me right now. My sisters did theres. It verys on price. One of them paid I think like a total of $7,000. $3k for one eye and $4k for the other.
When I checked on it, they said that my eye sight was changing to much to get it done. The surgery will not stop your eyes from changing, so if you need new glasses every year, you will also need to keep up with the lasik or glasses. I was told that when I can go 2 years without a change in my perscription, then it would be worthwile to do. Lasik is just like a permanent contacts, so after you get the surgery and your eyes change, you will need to go back to glasses/contacts or do it again. Russ
My wife & I both had it done. Mine was $4k hers was $2.5k. Mine cost more because I had it done earlier when there wasn't much competition for doctors. This was some of the best money I've ever spent. Contacts were a pain for me, I needed to correct for astigmatism with toric lenses & they never sat properly in my eyes. My vision was initially corrected to better than 20/20. It was amazing to me to see that clearly. I had it done ~8 or 9 years ago and my vision is still better than most. I think there is some new technology available... cutless lasik or something like that. Worth a look.
If anyone is seriously considering Lasik, PM me and I can point you to a very good doctor (over 7000 surgeries) with good pricing.
I just got it done this summer. It's awesome. The first thing I did was went out and picked up some sunglasses (I couldn't wear contacts because of how dry my eyes always are). So it was a big deal . Just make sure you do research on the doctor and the procedure before you do it and don't shop for the best deal, shop for the best doctor.
I had Epilasik done. Not to be confused with Lasik. It was hellapainful. It's nice not having glasses though. If my vision doesn't change for 10 years then I guess it would be worth it. If I could have done Lasik, I would say it's worth it. $3K. Where are you going for your appt?
My dad had it done and he loves it! He went from waring huge glasses to now only having to ware thin ones sometimes when he reads small stuff. He would do it again if he had too! No regrets!
my appt. in Maple Groove off Elm Creek Blvd. When i go in, what should i look for as far as how good they are?
I did it about 3 yrs ago and love it!!! I had it done in Edina at Lasik Plus. It was about $3000 with lifetime enhancements and have had no issues.
Maybe you should ask, oh I dunno, AN EYE DOCTOR these questions. I had lasik done for $3000 a few years ago. I have 20/12 vision in my left eye and 20/15 in my right now.
^^^ yeah, and he can also see through people's clothes. Perhaps that's why he's so manic/depressive, hehehe.
Bump this because im getting it done on the 15th at LasikPlus. I've been wearing contact's and glasses for over 10 years, I cant friggin wait! Getting the only laser Lasik too !!!!1
haha I hate even putting drops in my eye's and the exam made me cringe, but I got to get this done. Im way overdue! :eek4:
I have um .. irrational fears about my eyes. I don't even like eye doctors, thats why i don't have glasses right now hehe but i might have to go one of these days. I can't keep squinting through the license renewal exams forever
If you dont mind me asking, whats the total cost, and what is your current vision? My GF just had PRK, which is a similar (but newer, and more expensive) procedure, and is very happy with the results. My vision right now is terrible (but hasn't changed in ~4 years), and I'm thinking about getting lasik this spring. Did you/do you have to wear glasses going up towards the surgery and/or exam? Anyway, good luck! Wanna PM me their info?
I'm going to wait it out until it's not considered a "cosmetic surgery" under my insurance. Plus my eye sight is still changing a little bit.
I had mine done 10 years ago, no change in vision since getting it done. I wear glasses to read because I'm old. Would do it again.
My wife had it done ~7 years ago. She loves it but I miss the naughty librarian look! Also, we paid <$2k at a place in Wayzata. She'll likely need reading glasses down the road...doesn't help she's a bean-counter CPA that stares at spreadsheets all day.
my Aunt did it about 4 years ago. at the time, her vision was outside the known "limit" of what they could repair, so she had no guarantees of 20/20, but that it would get better. she had a few follow-up procedures, but hasn't had anything in about 3 years, and doesn't need glasses or contacts. She's been immensely impressed!!
I had mine done in Charlotte by a very reputable doctor back in January of 2008. I absolutely LOVE it! No more glasses for me! The place I went to wouldn't even do it if your prescription had changed in the last year. I had something slightly different than lasik though, I had "PRK" or photo-refractive keratectomy. Basically they buffed off the epithelium (skin) layer on my cornea and then did the laser correction. Then I had to wear clear non-prescription contacts for about 3-4 days while the skin grew back on my eyes. After that it was a few weeks of drops and other stuff which was FAR more complicated that basic lasik. I had to have PRK done because of a family history with a particular type of eye ailment and the fact that I have larger than normal pupil diameter in daylight conditions. (don't ask me why/how it plays a role, I know not). All said and done I believe it was around 3600 for both eyes. It was money very well spent, I couldn't be happier. My eyesight now is 20/15 btw. -Steve
PRK is actually an older technology than Lasik. As sjwelna indicates, PRK is done on the surface of the cornea, while Lasik is done inside the cornea. Both have their tradeoffs, but speaking in general, PRK can be done in cases Lasik can't, but Lasik has quicker/less discomfort in the recovery.
This is true, the recovery was much slower (took a solid 4 weeks before things were back to virtually 'normal'). There was also a lot more discomfort after the procedure, though I didn't experience anything too bad. Basically it feels like you have some decent corneal ulcers (think scratched your eye really bad or bad eye allergies). I'd had worse with a case of allergies from mold where I had to get put on an oral steroid pack to knock it down. They also gave me some meds to help a little with the discomfort, including some numbing drops though I only used them once (said to slow recovery down). EDIT: I had "Wavefront" intralasik done. Apparently it is the newest technology in terms of lasers and has a much more focused beam to give finer alterations/corrections to your cornea. It has been absolutely wonderful so far. -Steve
Yep, im have the wavefront procedure. They use a laser to open the eye and a laser to correct it. They said it takes about 20 seconds per eye!
Literally it does. It goes insanely fast and by the time you get comfy and have stared at the little green 'light' to get it going, it's pretty much already over. Oh, and you should know when you have it done, it smells a little like burning hair as they ablate your cornea. Don't worry, it's normal. -Steve
More like some Layzorblades! Let us know how everything turns out, I'm curious to hear first hand experiences of the surgery.
+1 for no glasses with helmets. I had mine done up in Crosby 4 yrs ago and love it. No more groping for glasses in the morning. Good luck! Amy
