okay, so i just got my 2.5rs for almost two weeks now. i havent race with it or anything. but all i know is that i just love the pick up power of the AWD. but anyways, for those who have been racing, from dead stop. at how many rpm do you launch at or atlease for an AWD whats the best rpm to launch at?
seriously? about 7K!!! . . . . . . . . . kinda like launching a turtle....not really worth it.
just put a $20 bill in the ash tray every time you launch and you can choose any rpm you want. Once your clutch explodes you'll have enough in the ash tray to buy a new clutch.
Put the right pedal and the left pedal all the way to the floor, then slide your left foot to the left until you hear a loud bang.
^ haters... all of them  The RS tranny is not so fragile as some people seem to think. Some of the swap shops even think it's superior to the 02-03 wrx tranny. I have what is mostly still an RS - have launched it PLENTY of times (as in 30+) at the strip at 4.5-5k. But I slipped it a lot so the clutch takes the brunt of the impact and not the tranny. Also I change tranny fluids regularly. This was on the stock clutch and FW on a modded ej25 with i/h/e/proecm/pulleys. After I swapped it this year, I took it to the strip and launched 14 times at same 4.5-5k, again, letting the clutch take the brunt of the hit and not the tranny. Made 1.7 sec 60ft times. This is on an ACT organic disc and HD pressure plate on an Exedy LW FW. Then I took it on the recent 2 Fall Fun Runs with the MNSubaru folks here - up and down back roads with mad elevation changes and frequent, hard corner exits. Tranny is still fine, shifts smooth like butta, no grinds, and clutch still holds strong. That being said, I don't condone launching feverishly in a scoob with a 5mt. Any kind of hard driving is obviously harder on the car than if you drove like grandma, but once in a while is ok, like at the drag strip, just don't sidestep the clutch at 5k every chance you get. 1. Rev to 4.5-5k. 2. Let out the clutch JUST enough to feel it tug on the car - you'll feel when this happens. This allows the gears to mesh good and tight with as little play as possible between gear teeth. Just don't let it tug you past the line-up lights in the staging lane  3. Upon launch, quickly but gradually let off the clutch while at the same time applying full throttle, slipping it into the launch. When done correctly, you should not be smelling burnt clutch, you'll just take off like a bat outta hell and the car next to you will disappear  (unless it's an evo or sti :raise: ) 4. First gear goes by IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE (seriously) so get ready to shift INSTANTLY. You'll hear a clunk from the rear diff on a hard shift, this is normal on these cars when you're playing hardball.
bounce it off the rev limiter and dump that shizz!!!!! j/k when i launch, i hold it at 4.5-5k and do a slip dump. meaning, slip the clutch a bit so that the gears engage and the car is slowly rolling, then just dump the clutch. There won't be much of a shock to the system since the gears are already engage from the slipping.
I know a guy who has one and it has about 80k miles on it. He does it all the time and I wonder why his tranny and clutch never goes out. 2.5Rs mysterious.:eek4: Hmm maybe that's where my influence came from:???:
I have hammered my 02 WRX tranny good. I got G-tech from my girlfriend for Christmas last year and I have been testing myself ever since with it. I just try to focus on smooth take-offs. As long as the gears don't slap into gears you shouldn't have a problem. On the other hand, clutches come and go relatively frequently. I never had a very good 1/4 but I did do a 4.9 0-60 on the old stage two setup. I was pretty pumped about that. Had a decent AWD burnout on the take off.... nice, ha ha.
