I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet for the cruise, but I thought I'd make a thread with some info. We can change what channels to use for the radios if we need to.

FRS radios: Channel 9-0, (channel 9, no code)
Most people will probably have these. They're not quite powerful enough to reach from the front to the back of the group, but they can be used to relay messages. If you have some, bring them and maybe some extra batteries as well.

CB radios: Channel 23 (worked ok last year)
Only two people had these last year, but they were able to reach front to back of the group except in a few places. I'll have one in my car, if anyone else has one, post up. If anyone wants one in their car or maybe help setting one up, I might be able to give some advice or help a bit.

Ham radios: These work great, if you've got a ham license and a radio in you car, post up and you guys can organize what freq to use.

PTT: If people have cell phones with PTT and want to set up a group, go for it, it'd probably work great.

If anyone has any extra radios laying around, they are almost always needed! So try to bring them with if you don't mind loaning them out.:)

    Bump.

I'll probably have an extra frs radio for someone to borrow.

Is there gonna be anyone else with a CB?

yeah, walkie talkies, FRS refers to the frequency they operate on. most new walkie talkies that you buy these days operate on FRS and GMRS frequencies.

I don't think nm+ has a radio in his car though. I know there are a few people with their ham license on the site, but I don't see them on the list.

I will find FRS I would use HAM but no one else...
HAM FTW over FRS & CB.....

HAM is used in rally that how I got my lic. (co-driving and rescue)the distance on HAM is way better

CB is perfect for this sort of thing though. And the radios are dirt cheap. I think my CB setup was $50 with antenna. My HAM rig is easily 10x that even if I only count one antenna.

<--- one of the aforementioned licensed operators that won't be on the cruise.
