I dunno if it's much of a challenge or just something interesting to do, but we could track what mileage people get on the cruise and see who gets the best/worst mileage. It would also provide some interesting comparisions for what mileage different subarus get on the same drive.

Obviously it wouldn't be too accurate and people would just be on their honor not to cheat.

-Show up at walmart with a full tank of gas.
-Reset the trip meter and/or record the car's mileage when you fill up before arriving at walmart.
-No adding gas (or anything else) to your tank after leaving walmart and before arriving at the pavillion in lacrosse.
-Buy gas when leaving lacrosse, record the mileage and total gallons of gas.
-Post up results in this thread, along with model, year, mods and any other info you think affected your mpg.

This might provide some good info for those inevitable "what mpg do you get?" threads.

Right, that's why people should list up their car and mods with the results. Depending how many people participate we can break it up into categories.

Hmm, I don't have any budget for prizes, I guess we'll need sponsors. You wanna kick in a set of lug nuts as a prize? :)

I got awesome mileage last year on the LaX cruise. Like up around 27 MPG.

I suppose that a constant 55 mph in 5th gear will do that.

This is a MNSubaru sponsored event. At MNS events, the people who do stupid things will be pointed out to the police if need be. Last year the line of cars was about 3 miles long. That creates alot of red flags. The last thing we need is some asshat that wants to do from rolls. You want to do from rolls, you go someplace other than a MNSubaru event.

so, curly2k3 thinks he can get better mileage than me with his massive rear spoiler and 4eat slushbox transmission. :)

I slightly changed the rules, reset your trip meter when you fill up before getting to walmart, not at walmart.

I will enter the challenge. This year its only me in the car, but I also have about 50lbs of tools in the back. hmm... I bet I can hit 31mpgs on the drive down if I am real nice to it. Or perhaps 29 or so on the drive back up.

Ok, so I got almost 35mpg today.

It was 335 miles from the gas station by my house to lacross and back to the gas station by my house. I took the same route home as we took there.

335 miles, and it took 9.6 gallons to top off at the station. 34.9 mpg. not too bad.

For those that don't know. I have an ej22, non-turbo, catback exhaust. I was also dragging a 5 foot cb antenna through the air, that probably hurt a bit on the highway.

    holy crap 35mpg? I'm jealous.
I got 24.1 with the ac on pretty much the whole way.
Driving back out to WI (eau claire) again tomorrow morning, so this is gonna be an expensive weekend for gas :emo:

edit: got 25.6 mpg from the trip back at a much quicker pace and ac blasting. pleasantly surprised since I've seen as low as 13 and typically see 19 with 90% city driving.

198.6 miles from fillup to fillup on the way home. 7.45 gallons for a total of 26.65 for the way down and part of the way back. Filled up on the way home and had over 100 miles before I dropped below the full mark. I must be about 30 or so for the return home trip. I will know tomorrow when I fill it up.
2.0L wrx, 18g, 630cc injectors, 4eat with all the goodies, and ac most of the way down and all the way home.

Yeah, but I didn't use the ac and I took it pretty easy most of the way.

Some days I like the mileage, other days I'd rather have the horsepower that your car has.

    where yellow = 24.

that would be about 12.5 gallons and 300 miles for nate. So, rough estimate, 24mpg.

edit, i would like to remind you about the...er... "spirited" driving used with that butt clown in the BMW as well as driving like a maniac to avoid the storms ;)
