Im not sure if this is the correct forum for this, but I have a 2007 forester xt throwing a P0302 code. I've tried swapping coil packs, plugs, and checked the injectors. I did a comp test yesterday and its showing about 60 psi on that cylinder. I only tested 2 amd 4 cause its a PIA, #4 showed 120psi. I was wondering if someone could recommend a shop to do a leak down test, and roughly how much that should cost me, I'm in Inver Grove Heights. Is it worth having a leak down test on it. I'm thinking its a burnt valve but I dont want to pull the motor and just start tearing into it.
Do you have access to a truck or trailer?(or AAA?)lol I'd take it to JM Automotive in Osseo to have it properly diagnosed. I call Jesse, the owner, the "engine whisperer".
I second this. They do really good work with Subaru's and Jesse just has a knack for this type of stuff.
Just need to get these damn cam gears off. You can hear #2 and 3 leaking through the exhaust valves when you turn it over by hand. Hopefully get it torn down the rest of the way this weekend.
Still broke. Still cant get the cam gear bolts off, although i havent really tried for 2 weeks. What can i say im lazy.
I sold one of these to a member here, would this be helpful? http://www.company23.com/subarutools/501
Yeah that would probably help ha. I couldnt even get it to budge with a 4 foot pipe on a ratchet. I was thinking of just drilling the heads off the bolts. I saw a video where the guy did that and then the bolts come out by hand once the gears are off.
I bought the tools and put a breaker bar on the end it and they still weren’t enough on my sti. Had to drill them out. Once you get through the head of the bolt and remove it the rest of it spins out by hand.
Do i only need the one? #501? I suppose its something i might as well have given how reliable subarus are!
I finally found some motivation to work on my car again yesterday, I've been carpooling with the wife in the 14 outback and its just so boring, but I'm pretty sure I found the reason for only having 60 psi in cylinder 2. When I take the heads in to get the work done, should i put the cams back in? Obviously without the cams the buckets will just fall out. Or do I just bring in the bare heads without cams and buckets? I would hope that the shop would deal with the valve clearances and all that jazz.
When I got mine done I brought everything in. They have to have the cams in to set the valves. Then you have to remove the cams again when you put them back on the block. Good times.
Bring them everything. Especially if you want them to bring all the clearances up to spec for re-install. It'll also save you some money in parts if (hopefully) most of your buckets are reusable in achieving the right clearances. It's hard to tell from the pic but it looks like there are some cracks in both the valve seat and the head casing. If you need a shop that can both machine and furnace welds those type of repairs, contact Dave at Metro Engine Service. Not sure if it will be cheaper to repair or replace, but he'll walk you through all of that as well.
Carpoolingwithwifemotivation is usually a prime motivator. Surprised it took this long. Earphones while commuting?
She doesnt talk much at 5:30 in the morning actually. I dropped the heads off with Dave yesterday, he said he will tear them down next week and let me know what he finds.
