Lesson is, don't leave a bottle of oil (especially synthetic) with the safety seal off (cap was on tight) roll around in you're cabin.
Just noticed my passenger side carpet is soaked with redline 5-30:mad:, my all weather mats caught some of it, but it looks like most of it went into the carpet.
    I feel so stoopid:eek:
Looks like I'll have to shop around for a steam cleaner rental.

^ I had this happen too. I thought that having the cap on good was enough. nope I know have 1qt of oil in teh carpet. It was messy right away but now I am over it. When I put open oil containers in the cabin now I always tie them up in a plastic bag.

Was it dino oil or synthetic?

When I drove my old ford, I always had a partial bottle of dino 5-30, and never had it leak.

Either the synthetic molecules are that much smaller, or the bottle design isn't up to snuff...

dino. the bottle design is horrid. Atleast where it is in my car I can just put a floor mat over it :)

throw a pile of diatomaceous earth (or kitty litter-unused type) on the spill to soak up the oil so it cleans up better.

I had considered that, but figured it would just end up as oil soaked sludge stuck in the carpet.

The LGT wagon has a little pocket in the passenger side of the cargo area just perfect to hold a bottle of oil. Thats engineering :)

I left my spare oil in the bottle and then stuck in inside a gallon freezer bag. Only once did it leak the the big old ziplock kept everything clean
