Leasing a sedan vs 5 door...

So I stopped into Miller Hill Subaru yesterday to cheack out the 2008 Imprezas for ****s and giggles... They had a gold 5 door 5mt premium package there that I drove and actually really liked.. I've been toying with the idea of getting a new, economical, and not so high performance car. I've developed a recent passion for being on two wheels instead of four, so I might save the need for speed stuff for the bike and snowmobile... Anyway, I was checking out the lease vs buy options... To buy a 5 door vs a sedan was only a $400 difference; but to lease a 5 door it was $35 a month more than the sedan! I can't quite understand that one...? The salesman was also a little confused as to why, and said the sedan has lower retail but higher residual... Basically it seems really worth it to lease a sedan but totally not worth it to lease a 5 door.. Do any of you guys know why this is? I don't see why there should be any difference...

Also, what are you guys with '08 Imprezas seeing for mpg?
