hey all, i am just curious as to what can be done to a '96 Legacy wagon, to make it more back happy (atleast in the snow) without huge modification.

my first thought was rear sway bar. does anyone know if an impreza rear sway bar will bolt onto a legacy? like you know a wrx 20mm or something.

welding the diff isnt huge. Pick one up from a junkyard for 200 bucks. Pull it apart. Have it welded. Swap it out. Done.

welded center diff = crazy hoping chirpsing and other stuff. and possibly RWD. car must be daily driven & awd.

My 6 cylinder makes 1250 lb/ft of torque.
I'm probably wrong, but disconnecting the rear sway could dial in some oversteer?

i check out sli (thx phil) and the RSB from outback yrs 95-99 will bolt on. those are 18mm. so that should be a nice increase over the stock 13mm. also whiteline, and cusco make RSBs for legacys.

why not? it's not permanent, turned on/off at the flip of a switch (or push of a button if you prefer) and done with one wire...

although it is only 1 wire i would clump that in to an electrical mod and over all elctrical mods = bad for relaibility. plus this car will be sold eventaully, and who ever buys it may not want a locking center diff switch (ie old woman) so easily revered mods are best.

so cut the switch out, tuck it back into the dash, and crimp it back together. it's the easiest to revert. and as long as you don't use it on dry pavement, it won't hurt anything.

yarg. this isnt my car, and the way kev is about modifing his cars there is no way he would let me touch teh wiring. but the rear sway bar is prime for a changin.

Rear sway bar will help a little, but really, it's the rear LSD. IF you have one, you know what I mean. Sideways fun around every corner. umm....I have a welded one if he wants to try....but it's for off road use only or special purpose (not recommended for daily street).

why not? an LSD is great for a daily driver. especially in the snow!! (no sarcasm! when you're hard on the throttle it'll get you some oversteer, but when driving conservativly it helps alot!)
