I was driving on 494N between 7 and 394 on Saturday. Luckily only going about 5 over, when my detector went ape**** yelling "LASER!!" I looked up and actually saw a squad backed under a bridge gunning. Usually it's Ka band that goes crazy when there's cops around, but it never even chirped Ka. I've received false alarms for laser before, but this one obviously wasn't false.

Anyone else have a detector and been hit with a frickin laser beam? How long have they been using them?

Yes, Rosedale cops use them all the time on HWY36. I have been hit a few times this year... and it wasn't a false read because i actaully see the cops down the road. Typically i notice only small town cops and state troopers using KA running all the time. I have noticed a lot of POP and Lazer since i got my V1.

when your radar show laser, it is telling u that there is a cop with a radar gun in his hand and he is using it to get the speed of each cars that roll past him.

^ correction. this means that there is a cop with a lazer in his hand and it is pointed at you. the spread of the lazer is very small. so if you pick it up you are 99.99% sure that you are the one he is spotting. there are the rare isntances where you cross his beam or it reflects off of something. lazer is different than KA or X band

I cheaped out. Actually bought a whistler on woot a while back. $35 that has saved me from several tickets, though if I replace it it'll be with a V1. Love those things.

This is exactly why I'm nervous about this.

I don't see the po-po with laser very often. For me its like 99.99% sure there's an Infiniti with adaptive cruise or a GM with led taillights around. One of these days I'll learn the hard way.

I've just slowed down since I picked up the higher profile car. Seems to have solved the issue with extra attention. The Talon always got ignored, the Evo... not so much.

I've been hit with a laser plenty of times. When a squad car is parked perpendicular to the road you can pretty much count on him nailing people with the laser.

I've been hit in Eden Prairie, Bell Plain, LeSuer, St. Peter, Mankato, Shakopee, Edina, and many more.

Simple solution: don't speed. Then you don't have to worry if he sights you since he's checking everyone. Don't give him a reason to put it down and go after you. :)

they have been using lasers for about 6 years now. the laser beam speads about 18in. and they usally aim for ur front plate. that why i always laugh at people how but there radar detectors on the top of there windshields, cause they arn't really doing there jobs way up there. jsut rember that cops also have laser on the rear of the car so they can get you coming both ways

Your radar does you no good against a laser.

They can't shoot laser through glass. You'll see them parked sideways to traffic or with the laser and officer hanging out the window.

We got it the first time (LOL) you aren't using a DROID are you? Mine always double posts.

The Radar Detector does help you when you are hit with a lazer. It gives you 3 seconds to get ready to be pulled over! Or as stated earlier, you can get lucky and catch a bounce.... but you have been odds at the powerball

Almost every time I see a squad he's stationary with a laser gun. Boom headshot.

    Quoted for truth.

I don't have a detector anymore, just too anoying. Because I don't speed, I am able to enjoy the peaceful drive.

by the time you see them, its too late.

these guys live and breathe traffic. and can pick the aggressive speeder out of the mess of cars who are "just keeping up with traffic"

don't speed excessively and you will be golden.

Correct, the rear sensor is a radar sensor and not laser. I've been on a number of ridealongs doing traffic and laser is a handheld unit that they'll use, radar is vehicle mounted.

It is handheld because of the low profile (small coverage area) beam it shoots out. You need to see what you are pointing at.

When I see laser, they are often standing in plain sight so you see them a mile away. Your best option of "fighting" laser is just paying attention to whats ahead of you. Since I've bought my wrx (which came with integrated radar) I haven't been pulled over yet...knock on wood.
