SNOW!!!! Yes, it happened. Lastly, this one again, with some afterthought. It was both good and bad, some days I would do it all over again in a heartbeat, some days I wish I never had done it at all, some days I don't know. the memories have made me laugh, made me cry, made me miss some of the best damn friends I ever made, made me scared, mad, upset, confused, happy, wistful, and everything else in between. It was something I'll never forget, that's for damn sure, it makes me happy to share a small piece of it with you, I feel like you guys are a part of my extended family.
very interesting post, Enjoyed every picture posted. What are some of the best memories or stories you had there?
Too many. Of note: 4th of july doing an 'all systems' test fire of the C-RAM guns. Basically a point defense gatling gun that shoots explosive rounds designed to shoot mortars down. At 2300 hours they did an all gun test fire, which was about 15 guns. We were about 100 feet from the closest one. If you think fireworks are loud, get ****ed. LOL! Talk about bombs bursting in air. Of note: *knock knock knock* wake up, go to door. It's my boss. 'what the **** do you want, i'm trying to sleep' him: 'dude, get the **** out of the pod.' (housing pod) me: what the **** are you talking about. him: there's an unexploded rocket about 50 feet to your left. you need to get the **** out of the pod. it landed 2 minutes ago, and might go off. me: holy ****. let me get my ****. him: hurry the **** up dude turns out a rocket went through the roof of the trailer kitty corner to mine. while the occupants were in the room that it went through. two days before, one of the occupants had switched her wall locker and bed around. the rocket cut her wall locker in half. it punched a round hole with six perfect fin slices right through the roof. the fin then sliced through the wall locker, then the rocket punched through the floor and into the ground. it was a dud. Had it gone off, every single person within 100 feet would have likely sustained severe injury. not just from the shrapnel, as there were enough sandbags to protect from that, but the fact that it landed within a housing pod that has 20 foot cement/rebar blast walls around it: the blast would have reverberated back in on itself and caused severe.... head issues.... from the pressure wave. Flip a coin. heads, you're ****ed. tails, it's a dud. i got tails. of note: watched WALL-E in a theater that Saddaam assassinated a bunch of generals in back in the day. Also saw 'Meet the Spartans'. Worst. Movie. Ever. of note: turkish restaurant on base. holy awesome food. of note: outdoor olympic size pool with three level diving board. air force chicks in swimsuits FTMFW. Ziggurat of Ur was ****ing badass as hell. If you're into history, you almost can't beat it. If you're into the bible, word is is that Abrahams house was located at Ur. I apparently toured his house. The biggest thing I miss is the friends, my battle buddies. **** dude, you never forget your battles.
That rocket deal would be insane, and glad you got some real eye candy while you were there I'm sure it gets pretty lonely. My sisters husband was stationed in Iraq for 6 months, pretty nasty country...
Well that's not too hard. All your pictures are of dudes with mustaches. Not gonna lie, that's kinda weird man. Damnit, you know the drill. Pics or ban. Also, you need to quit your gabbing and get more combat experience Thanks for sharing, bud.
Great pics neighbor! Looks like one hell of an experience. And since we are family, this should roll right off of your shoulders...You looked a hell of alot thinner in those pics!Lol. Thanks for sharing with us as most of us will probably never make the trip to Iraq.
Probably the only place you can curse at your boss and still remain employed..... ah those were the days!
That should be able to land you a good civilian job?? My brother was a simple radio operator in Hawaii for 4 years and he ended up with a very decent job when he got out. Be glad your not infantry, there isnt many job opportunities for security forces and recon when you reach the civilian world, unless you want to be a police officer.
Nice pics! Too bad all the fun is gone from this place, can't swear, fight, or do anything other then work out and eat all freaking day now...I'm actually missing the convoys into Iraq, it was better then sitting on a FOB all day. I have a few pictures from that experience but yours look like better scenery.
