Ok, so some of you that have met me, know I'm interested in getting a bit more space between the wheel wells. (2015 STI) I'm not trying to get a monster truck lift here....just trying to gain a bit more clearance. Lets face it, we live in MN and I for one like to partake in vehicle adventures of all kinds. So with that said, how do STI or WRX owners gain a bit of lift without major race type modification? I am new to Subaru's and am doing research on my own of course, but figured I would try the pool and see how the water is. (it cant be all just rim and tire choices can it?) (and is spacers even a answer/choice?) This is what my idea of an STI should be as far as "stance":
Without replacing your entire suspension setup, you could look at Ground Control coilover springs. However, I don't know what effect it'll have on your struts to be more fully extended. Probably less harmful than slamming it would be. The GC setups allow you to choose your spring rates and heights.
Coilover sleeves (like Ground-Controls, which I do recommend) are a decent option. They can offer ride height adjustability and almost infinite spring options (they use 2.5" ID coilover springs, which can be purchased in almost any rate and length under the sun for pretty cheap). If you don't want to mess with spring rates and such, there are companies who make 1 or 2" strut spacers which can be a cheap and simple way to get a little boost. I'm not sure if there's anything for a 2015, but I would be surprised if the stuff designed for anything '08+ wouldn't fit....
Compare your stock suspension to the new forester...Maybe it'll work? Hubs are different though....Just a thought
^ oh boy..... To awnser: yup! 35 inch swampers, 6 inch lift kit, train horn, confederate flag, cb radio, double wenches, DIY whisky lines! Get er done!! Any you got sums chaw for a fellow! Yeeehaaa Oh, for got deer hooves out the front grill. Grrrrr
In the 5 minutes I've looked, it appears the 15 shares the same suspension as the 08+. With that being said, here is a set of spacers that will give you an extra inch of lift. Subtle Solutions states this will work for any 08-15 impreza models. http://mnsubaru.com/threads/1-subtle-lift-spacers.47193/ Coilovers would be the best option. It will give you a little lift when needed, and the ability to lower the car back down to normal height or lower for tarmac racing.
thank you. Its kind of crazy they say they completly redesigned the body and suspension, but have the exact same tower configuration to recieve these spacers. I guess Im glad they do. Thanks for the link as well. Man, i wish I had some extra cash to drop on some coils right now tho....maybe that guy will give me a deal on the spacers until i save some scratch for coilovers
I think with any coilovers even at the highest setting, will still be lower than stock...but I could be wrong. Strut spacers are the simple, easy, and cheap. Just make sure none of your other suspension geometry pieces change drastically. An alignment will definitely be needed.
I have spacers still available. Would perfer a trade but I will take cash. Not sure but you might find some help on the dirty impreza forum.
Spacers or Forester drop in suspension are your best bet. The problem with spacers is you don't have any increase in suspension travel. Forester suspension is lower spring rate and damping rate which could either be bad or good depending on opinion but will have longer suspension travel. Both will yield you an increase in positive camber.
yeah....idk about the forester setup....before I make any ridiculous decisions I need to chat with somebody who has done it, or something similar....feel them out, maybe I'm reaching here.
With taller suspension, you would want softer spring/damping rates. Also, now that I think about it I am pretty sure the Forester strut bodies wont fit the STI chassis (different knuckle mounts). As Josey said, check out dirtyimpreza.com as they are the best place to find info on lifting cars. Spacers will give you an increase in positive camber which could cause tire wear issues. You can get coilover setups that are spec'd for rally grade which would likely include adjustable front camber plates but you are left to find another solution for rears (most likely new LCAs). If you are rallyx'ing, stock suspension is fine.
