Well after working a 12 hour day grilling on site for a wedding, I got home to a sweet lightning storm!!! So i took these... not the best but was to exhaust to mess with the settings.

    Really cool pics.

I have always wondered how exactly do you take pictures of lighting? As far as timing for it and so on?

Very nice! Thanks for the new desktop backgrounds. You should have tried getting some shots of your car with the lightning, like looking up from the bumper or something.

There was so much constant lighting last night, I don't think you really had to worry about timing.

Yeah, I'm interested in what settings you were running for taking those shots.

Tim the plumber and I were hanging out last night talking about it. In my photography class the instructor recommended setting it to time of 30 secs with tripod and remote shutter. With how often they were firing yesterday I'm guessing 8~10 seconds would be more then enough. I would have done some shots but it was the sis-in-law's bday.

    ISO: 1600
    F-stop: 22
Shutter Speed: 20 and 30 seconds.
    Tripod shot
Lens on Manual Focus set to infinity

The landscape shot would have been better vertical, cause the lightning that was coming lower than my images was really sweet. If I would have not been so exhausted I would have messed around with different ISO's and other camera settings. Those shots were taken back to back to back. once one finished i checked the placement of the cloud in the viewfinder and then started the next shot.

Thanks for all the feed back, anything other than getting my outback in it for next time that you feel might make a better image? (technically wise, yes better location would have been nice)
