ok so I've been getting the newer Vette bug. I took in my 04 Sti into a few dealerships along with my 79 Vette with plans on trading for a 99+ Vette and a 2000+ pick em up. I knew I would be putting some money in on a deal, they are a business after all. But at 1 dealership after having "2" people drive my Suby I was offered $8500. At a more local dealership they bumped it up to $10k but thats still not much over the lowest condition class on KBB. The Vettes I'm looking at have a retail value of about 17.5K and my sti has a retail value of about 17k. So whats the deal? anyone?

Ummm, thats a dealership for ya. They are going to give you as little as they possibly can on your trade in so they can make more of a profit. They will give you 8.5k for it and sell it for 17k. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Sure they will say they put 3-4k in cleaing and a tune up, but thats BS anyways. Sell them both outright and then take your money and pay cash for that vette.

    This.

STI's have significantly better resale value than NADA says. KBB is more realistic, but nobody uses KBB.

I'm not trying to sell mine, but I had a similar problem when trying to refinance. What banks think the car is worth and what I could sell it for are completely different numbers.

Maybe try a Morries, there new buying program is Amazing!! I traded in my 05 Malibu and they gave me 800 over excellent KBB and it needed tires and a good buff, they wrote me a check, an actual check and said even if I dont buy a car from them they would buy it from me for that.Only small thing is they dont budge too much on there price...but I got an 09 2.5i for 14k

Alot of dealers are using Black Book for trade in values now. Not good for someone trading like you. Black goes off of auction price and is usually cars that couldnt or were not good enough to sell at dealer lots. Prices can vary alot from dealer to dealer so keep on shopping around.

Black book on my trade was 7.5-9.5k. yuck.
Went to one dealer 10.5k. Better
Next dealer 1hr away small town. 12,650 Best
Guess which one I went with.
