We're changing the date. It'll be May 9th, not the 2nd.

Alright guys, it's time to haul out the firearms and go shooting again. :)

Same drill as before we'll meet at 9am, you bring the guns and ammo and we'll convert paper into swiss cheese. New to firearms? No worries! There are enough of us on here that can give you pointers in a nice, low key environment. New people are always welcomed to these events. For those of you who've been out before, it's been a great time and a good way to get to know people in the club.

We are going to change things up a bit for this one, as we've got several people who have rifles who would like to shoot farther than the pistol range in Robbinsdale. This time, we'll head up to Bills at Circle Pines. I've been up there to scout it out and they've got a great rifle range and plenty of guns to check out for those of you who want to rent/try something new. I think this will be a good way to mix it up a bit so we're not always going to the same place. The directions for Bills are below:

    http://billsgs.com/modules.php?name=NukeWrap&page=directions.html

Circle Pines is only about 15 min or so from Robbinsdale, so it won't be too much of a drive for those of you coming from the south or west side of the cities. :)

Yeah, I will probably end up hitting the range on my own to fire a few through it. This is a work related trip, so I have to go.

They have ammo for sale, but it can be a little more expensive than a regular retailer. What are you bringing? Check their website, basically no aluminum or steel cased ammo, no steel cored/armor piercing ammo, nothing over 3000fps and no tracer ammo. Other than that, you should be good to go.

What time? I'm planning on cars n coffee in the morning and another gathering at 1 pm but if there is time between or one or the other doesn't happen count me in. We went to the CP range a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it. and its only a few minutes from my house.

If there ends up being a lot of people not being able to make it due to other events we can do May 9th as an alternate date. If you're planning on coming, let me know what day works better for you and we can shift the dates for what works best.

I am in as usual. I am looking forward to checking out the CP range. I take it they still have a pistol distance range or you can shoot at pistol distances on the rifle range?

I need to zero my new irons on the M1A, and possibly mount up a scope if I have a new one by then (old one broke from recoil issues). so expect me to be there with the M1A, AR15, and XDm. people are more than welcome to shoot my guns, but please bring ammo. (contact me, and I can tell you what to get)

I won't be able to join you guys this time, I'm stuck working! :emo:

Martin, I'm assuming your AR-15 uses .223? If so, what should I pick up for that? I may bring a box to pass through it.

I will be bringing my Mossberg 500 Tactical with to the meet. 12ga, 2-3/4" or 3" shells.

I'll bring my 870 Police Magnum, 2 3/4 or 3in shells. If you want to shoot a lot of ammo, I recommend finding a decent target load (#7 or so shot) as you can find that for dirt cheap. If you've ever wanted to try slugs or buckshot, the recoil reducing stock I've got really makes them fun to shoot. I'll also be bringing my 10/22 to try out for some long distance fun, regular high velocity .22LR works great in it. I'll also have my .22LR Kimber Rimfire Target, my Kimber TLE II .45ACP and Sig Sauer .357SIG with. I may have a .40 barrel by then, I'll let everyone know so they can bring ammo if they want.

If you want to shoot any of my pistols, please run the ammo by me first. I do not want +p rounds fired through any of my pistols. I highly recommend FMJ rounds for the Kimber TLE, hollowpoints can be a bit finicky in 1911s, and the ones that do work well are an arm and a leg to shoot at paper.

On the other end of the recoil spectrum, I'll bring my Bushmaster .450. For those of you looking to relocate your shoulder into the next county, this will do the trick. I'm not supplying ammo for it, as it's 30 bucks for a box of 20 and if I wanted to pay for that kind of abuse I'd just give Jason 30 bucks to kick me in the balls repeatedly.

It is fun unleashing that kind of monster downrange though ;)

^That .450 is a riot to shoot. Ammo for it is super expensive though. The only downside.

Yep .223 or 5.56x45. I havent had a chance to fire it yet, so I am not sure what feeds best. I would say you would be fine with almost any .223 ammo, except for the Wolf stuff or any other steel/aluminum/lacquered cased stuff (which they dont allow at bills anyway). Probably stick to an FMJ type bullet as well, until I can determine how well it feed the other types (ie polymer tipped v-max, ect...) I know they have the PMC .223 55gr FMJ on sale for 20/$10 at cabelas, which is good stuff.

I might try and get to the range just too see how that v-max stuff feeds. they have Fiocchi 40gr v-max on sale at cabelas for 50/$22. If this stuff works fine I will let you know.

^^^Fleet farm had the .223 PMC 20 rnd/7.99 BP store had 5k plus yesterday I picked up 350 rnds, went back today...nothing but they had a ton of regular blazer 9mm,38,357,40,45 and probably 50 boxes of the brass @16.99(.40 only) I took 7 boxes so as of this afternoon if you still need/want more BB .40 its available.
What AR did you get? I really need to find an upper but may check the event in little falls this weekend for a complete gun.

And for the shooting day I am bringing and willing to share my XDM .40 my wifes .357/38 revolver and my friend Nick should have his 10/22.

Well I got out to the range today. I put a couple mags through the AR. I found out that the Fiocchi 40gr Vmax cycles great through the rifle. I am pretty sure that it will take any .223 in a brass case.

hmm... I am pretty good on .40 ammo. at least good enough where I can wait until I see it for $13 a box before I get some more. That is a good deal on the PMC .223. To bad they are out of I would have got some for this range outing.

As for the AR, I picked up a CY6. So far I love it.

I would be in, but 50yrds is just a waste of ammo for anything in my safe (sans .22lr)

    Is there anywhere with 100+?

There are a few places that I want to try later this spring/summer. Part of the reason I've been using Bill's is so that some of the newer people can rent guns they wouldn't get to try out otherwise. Come on, just turn your scope around ;)

    I kind of agree.

We could do a trip out to Del-Ton in St. Cloud. That is the DPMS range. I went there a couple weeks ago for the first time. It is pretty nice. They have 200yrd, 100yrd, 50yrd and pistol ranges there. $15 or so to get in, but you CANNOT do any sort of rapid fire (more than 1 shot/second).

Otherwise we could see about getting access to a Gun Club. Minnetonka has 100yrd rifle and 25yrd pistol range. Elk River has a 600yrd rifle range, that I would like to try out. Even though my NM front sight post on my M1A will probably be bigger than the target at 600yrds.

I don't know if I can see 600 yrds:hsugh: I need to find out if I can hit a target with my AR at Bills before I go any further. I'll take any tips you guys have got on the 9th. I'm enthusiastic but still new to the rifle thing.

The NM front post shouldn't be too bad at 600 if you are shooting at an e-type. A USGI front post would....

I just got my single shot back with a 7mm-08 22" mounted and need to dope in my scope. In honor of the single's return to my safe, I mounted up the .223 and went to burnsville on sunday. With Winchester factory white box 5.56mm M80 ball, I grouped at 3/4" at 46yrds (furthest it will go) I learned that the rifle DOES NOT LIKE that ammo... I should just save a few months and get my M14's bolt fixed so I can shoot it :hsugh: But if we do go to 100yrds+ I would LOVE to get my PSL out there and play. I have 880rds of Bulgarian surplus steel core that I want to send through the beast! Oh.. and one round a second is just fine with me!

On the note of ammo, I have brass, bullets, primers, and dies for .357mag and .44mag that may go up for sale soon. Anyone interested?

I'm not sure that "cheap" and ".308" can get used together ;)

I'd try Mills Fleet Farm, Wal-Mart, Cabelas or Gander Mountain.

Sure it can, military surplus. In colorado I used to be able to pick up aussie surplus fmj .308 ammo for a really nice deal. We don't have cool stores like that here. I used to pick it up at a drug store, I forget the name.
