Here are a few pics from the Rallycross today in Cannon Falls. My pictures kinda suck, no action shots since I was working when I wasn't driving. But hopefully some other people (...carl..) can post up some better shots. Otherwise, the Rallyx was a blast. There were about 20-30 cars there. The course was great, very soft, but not really muddy, the only problem was ruts forming in some corners, so the course had to change a few times. I don't remember my overall time, but I had 10th overall, and I think 2nd in class. Thank you to everyone who organized this event. heh, first pic isn't rallyx related, but I turned 123,456 miles on the way down there today. Some subarus ready for action. Lots of cones, we walked the course and cleared out some rocks before running. The saab corner. A few more subarus show up. Some shots of the course between runs. The course was a litle small for this truck, but it was still fun as hell to watch him rip through and throw mud everywhere. The overall winner of the day, Mark's car, #83.
yea I'll have pics up later joel! it was awesome! lot's of runs, nice course, well run event and the weather held! I got 4th in M4 (not that really means anything lol)
:rockwoot:Wooooo! Just got back from the Land of Lakes Rally Cross event in Cannon Falls today. After one event...I'M HOOKED!:naughty::yumyum: What a beautiful day for the kick off to the 08 season of RallyX! Temps were great, track conditions were really good, and the event was a blast! I don't know why the heck I've been missing out on these, one things for sure, I won't be anymore! I met up with carl and Joel and we took off for Cannon Falls around 8:15am. Made the journey down and arrived just before 9. The field of cars was broad from the Scoobaru's, to Saabaru's, to pretty well prepped rally cars like Mark's ice racer and Joe Cox's Chevy pick up that ripped the crap out of the track all day! Lol. I didn't get a chance to take many pics because the events are so involved. Ex. Drive 2 laps, marshall/c0ne tend a corner for 2 laps, drive 2 laps...etc. Thank you Mark U., Mark H., Amy, Jim, Guy, Carrie...and all the others that I don't know/remember that made this event happen! I absolutely loved it! I would highly recommend this style of event to all of you guys/gals that love driving your car hard and sideways! Especially if you enjoy the Ice Races in Orr! This is almost identical imo. There is basically one RallyX event a month this season, try to get out there and attend at least one! Here are the couple of pics I did get...sorry there aren't moar!
whooops, sorry Joel! I was typing out a novel and started a thread at the same time...merge the 2 please?
Yeah, I think we got 8 runs each and we were done before 4. things were running very fast and smooth and the weather was great. The only reason we didn't get a few more runs in was the rutting and the course needed to be totally changed to do much more.
I can think of at least a dozen members here that would enjoy this just as much as we did...but I won't name any names! haha ...but really, 3rik should have been there with the L. This I know 4shore.
Whoo! What a great start to the rally cross season. Glad you guys had a good time. I know you guys think I am a bit of a rally nut but now you can see why! Conditions started out slick but the sun came out and by the last run set it was pretty tacky with a lot of grip. Watching Jim Cox in his rally truck knock down more cones with the huge roosters of dirt he threw than by actually hitting them (too bad they count just the same) always makes me laugh cause its so dang cool. Good job by Joel, cracking the top 10 of something like 26 entries in his Impreza wagon. Well done, Joel! Next event is April 27th, 2008, planned for the larger of the Cannon Falls, MN sites (it was too wet for this weekend). Hope to see you and even more at future events. Amy
I'll be out there in the next couple events, June for sure! See what the *original bugeye* can do!
I'd love to see an old Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite at a rallycross. But I don't think they came with a factory hardtop option, so they wouldn't be legal.
wish i could have been there, but sitting on the beach on the north shore all day is a good enough substitute. I'll be ready to go at the next one, looking forward to it already.
it was great to see a bunch of new subie people at a rallycross. thanks for showin up everyone! here are some of the pictures me and my girl took durring the day.
why didn't you run the wagon!? it didn't look too low or nice at all... lol (ps, your wheel choice was excellent - looks fantastic)
thanks a lot guys. wheels are brand new, and had falcon azinas on... not too good for the mud. it probly would have been more fun than the sundance lol
my pics are up. I only got to photograph during the 2nd run group and I really didn't have an appropriate length lens but oh well! gallery: http://carl-s.smugmug.com/gallery/4622899_Rd3UE#272747774 before: after: joel clearing rocks:
Haha, I love the before and after pic of the track carl! Also, Joel and his rock pickin stick.
Well played sir! There was an optional removable hard top available, but are quite rare now. You can buy fiberglass repro's for a bit more than a kidney. *original modern bugeye* :yumyum:
These are not my pics, but I saw this link posted elseware and thought i'd post it cuz it has some shots of mnsubaru forum members that they might like to see. I don't think this is anyone on here, or previously posted pics, but I could be wrong. Indeed. And this guy drove the wheels off of it (not literally like Erik did at the last RallyX, but figuratively). I forget exactly where he finished overall, but it was very impressive for a stock minivan.
Jeremy posted some pics and a video of one of Jim's runs in the truck. That thing is so nuts. http://www.digitalgopher.net/gallery/4605963_6AaVv#272709322 Turn up the volume and enjoy Amy
Guy named Colin, IIRC. I talked to him a bit, he was following me to the event, somehow he managed to deduce where I was headed (Let's see, 91 Sentra, red bumper cover, maroon door, black body, primer fenders, hood pins, antenna mount, no interior, Jake Himes and Colin McRae memorial stickers, LSPR 06 & O7 stickers. Nope, can't figure out how he knew where I was going...) and followed me off track when I stopped for coffee and breakfast. I loaned him a FRS radio at the event, but didn't talk with him much when we were there. He kept it pretty clean in the muck with the RWD, which is a nice trick if you can do it.
