VF39, 660c, TMIC.... So Bullwinkle graced me with his log pulling abilities. Excel files; Part throttle - http://andrewcox.org/part.xls WOT - http://andrewcox.org/wot.xls What do you guys think? I had the car tuned at DB early spring and haven't touched it since. 3rd Gear Pull
Without seeing your tune it's hard to tell if the car is pulling timing because of knock or because it's supposed to. I'd guess it's the former. If they would have flattened out the KC table it would have made things easier. ...and WRXs have crazy high engine load. Wow.
Andrew, those .CSV's are kinda messed up. Maybe try linking them as excel files. The 16bit ECU engine load is 32bit load * 2, so that is why it is high in absolute value. I'm not going to start bashing DB's tune, but that car was pulling crazy timing. You can see this by the -KC numbers in the higher RPM areas. You only get negative KC if the ECU has detected a knock event, especially during a WOT log. I didn't pull the map from Andrew's car, we only pulled some logs. However, it looks fairly obvious that they attempted to ramp up the timing aggressively at around 5k (presumably to keep power), which is causing the car to knock, as the VF39 is keeping peak boost all the way to redline.
Well the answer can range from "definitely" to not at all. Thanks to Subaru/Denso's excellent knock detection/protection system, it can take quite a bit of abuse, especially at lower power levels. If your car had a UTEC and the same tune, there is a good chance that your motor would probably be dead by now. What your log is showing is the ecu actively protecting your car from grenading itself -- both by a long term correction (IAM is at 13; ie, the car is only adding at most 81% of the available additional timing) and an immediate response to knock events (kc dropping like a rock). If the tune was setup properly, the IAM would be even lower -- I'm going to guess that the load range for both fine and coure ignition correction is still at the stock values which is too low for this setup. Essentially you are running "out of range" in terms of knock learning -- your car is pulling crazy timing but the ecu won't ever reduce the IAM because of it. I would suspect that the IAM=13 is more than likely from partial throttle knock conditions.
The tune was done in March, and maybe the car hasn't been knocking the whole time. I have no idea. I'm only concerned due to the logs we pulled yesterday. I'll contact DB and send him my log sheet, maybe they can make some sense of it.
