Done LOTS of research. I'm looking at some SSR rims for mega cheap in a few days. The owner isn't sure of the offset, I'm sure it says so somewhere on the rims, but he doesn't know for sure (isn't looking carefully, doesn't care, whatever). So...my question is: How low offset should I buy them. Price is WAY too cheap to pass if they fit. Specs are 17x7.5 on a 2002 wrx sedan with stock suspension. If they are 40 offset...is that too low? 42? 45? I DO NOT want to deal with modifying the car to get them to fit. My only concern would be with wheel bearings and I'm willing to take that chance. Right now I'm thinking if they are +42 or more I'm buying. What do YOU think?
how much fender work are you willing to do to fit them? willing to get different suspension to fit them? care about potential decrease in wheelbearing life?
"how much fender work are you willing to do to fit them? willing to get different suspension to fit them? care about potential decrease in wheelbearing life?" Wheelbearing are my biggest concern. I'm not interested if a different suspension or fender work is in order. That's why I want your opinions.
Are you running stock suspension? On stock height you could probably fit those wheels on your car, but the offset is a little much. I think the wheels would come out approximately an inch from the face of your current stock wheel.
I ran a 7.5 width wheel with a +42 offset and was fine on a sedan. And that was with coilovers. You should be just fine. Just remember that you're gonna want 225/45/17 sized tires, otherwise you might rub if they are too much wider. **EDIT** Sorry, this is Readymix talking. I forgot to log Aegis out before posting...
You'll be fine with +40 on stock suspension. I run +40's on my wagon right now and they just barely work (only 7" wheel width and sitting on Eibach springs) so with the sedan you should be fine even if you do do suspension work in the future.
