I'm going to be looking at winter wheels on saturday for my 2011 sti, they are evo 8 enkeis that have michelin pilot alpin pa3 tires(235/45/17) on them. they all have 7-8 32nds tread on them and they come brand new with 10.5 32nds tread so they are pretty new. one has a tear in the sidewall which is un repairable. so my question is they don't make the pa3 anymore, I'm trying to see if i can find a new one left in stock somewhere. So if i buy the wheels and put on a 10.5 32nds tread tire on the one and the rest have 7-8 32nds will that do harm to any of my differentials or transfer case? and if i cannot find a pa3 could i put a pa4 on and not have to worry about it this winter? i found a replacement pa3 thats brand new. but i also found out you can tru the tire or shave it to bring it down to the other tread depths. So does anyone know of any shops in the twin cities that shaves tires??
Justin Tillus @ Vision Speedworks can shave tires. Most dedicated snow tires have dual compounds. The best sticky stuff is usually gone at 6/32s. After that you are left with what equates to a good all season tire. It might not be worth the expense to go through all that for just a season or maybe two of useful tire.

Yeah I just need something better than what I have. The tires I bought from curry wouldn't get me anywhere in snowy conditions lol, but they grip awesome in summer conditions!
samaritan tire in minnetonka also shaves tires and they have been nothing but excellent for me in the many times i have gone there.
