Hey fellow Suby lovers, I live in south Minneapolis, and I am looking to find a good Subaru mechanic in the area. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Specifically I need a shop that will do regular maintenance, and mod work. Quality service, and low cost would also be a plus.
    -Thanks folks

I know there is a directory, but none of these places are in Minneapolis I'm looking for somewhere close.

This guy is awesome, may be a little drive but he has fair prices. He just rebuilt and tuned my car

So not exactly south minneapolis, but I highly recommend Yang of Devoted Autoworks in WBL. He's a subaru driver himself and went out of his way to accommodate me when I had him work on my STI multiple times. He has his own shop and gives a real attention to detail I've yet to experience from the bigger tuner names in MN. This was my first experience with independent service dudes and it was a pleasure having him take care of the car.

NF isnt very far from you. RS Motors is about 15-20 minutes south of you(in burnsville), ron does great, quailty work.

Both of the shops he mentioned are highly recommended on this sight.
Otherwise go to a dealership and pay out the arse for maintenance, and do your own mods. Or just do every thing yourself.

    Hello,

I'm new to the forums, and I just did a quick search to find a good mechanic. I have heard quite a few good things about RS, and I'm thinking about going with them for an engine rebuild (I spun a rod bearing).

He quoted me about $5,500 without a Turbo. Does that sound reasonable?

First, welcome to the site! Be sure to check out the Welcome section.

RS is one of the local respected shops, as is NF and several others. Is $5,500 a reasonable quote for an engine rebuild? Impossible to answer without know more about the "rebuild" and what all they are "rebuilding". Assuming it is a full rebuild, replacing/upgrading all damaged parts, refreshing the heads (deck, check, rebuild/refresh necessary parts), etc, $5,500 sounds like the right ballpark.

Sounds about right if it's a full rebuild.
