Looking to transfer my 02 wrx more over to a project/build car and have a reliable daily driver. Not to say the 02 wrx has n0t been but I would like to take it down and properly build a motor for it and that is just not possible with it being my daily driver. I'm also looking to get something that is going to get better fuel mileage but is still fun to drive. Currently online I have been looking at Ford Focus ST Subaru BRZ Dodge Dart Aero I have not test drove any of these and will be starting to do so next week. Im looking to buy around the late March mid April time frame and was wondering if anyone out there had any thoughts on cars I may have over looked. Criteria I'm looking at is as follows: Turbocharged Manual Gearbox 30+MPG hwy less then 30k
idk on the brz with its rear wheel drive. The other 2 would be better. If I were you I would hold off until they show what the Dart SRT4 is going to be like. I have been waiting for it and they should be saying something soon.
Why not just get an efficient commuter vehicle like a Honda Fit? You'll have your big power toy, and driving an underpowered econobox will make you appreciate your built Subie even more. That opinion expressed, with snow tires, winter would be fine in a BRZ. I'd want something a bit more practical for a daily, though. As stated above. Of the three you listed, I'd take the Focus ST.
yea ive thought of getting a econo box but the thing is I dont drive a ton of long distances so I do not need loads of fuel economy. Its more to save miles on the expensive built motor once its done in the suby. So thats why im looking to get something thats somewhat fun to drive still Thanks for the opinons so far
Agreed on everything. I came very close to buying a Fit when I was looking at my civic years back. Unfortunately there was a several month wait at the time and I needed something right away. Go test drive one. They're on rails and easy to stand on their nose if need be. Everything feels tight and communicative. There are upgrade paths for it too if you decide it isn't exciting enough for a DD. Focus ST is a very good car as well. On the short list if I were in the market for a DD that can still bring a smile.
Clearly not what you had listed but have you ever thought of a truck? I like having something with some utilty rather than another fun small car that may turn into another project. Not that a truck can't be just as much of a project.
My work provides me with company cars about every 75000 miles or so (about a year and a half or less). I will say this, and alot of people will knock me for it. But completely honest here, the Dodge Caravan SXT is an absolutely bitchin' ride. Especially if you can get it with the big V6. It hauls some ass for a van, has TONS of storage space (they actually designed the rear area to accept stacks of drywall or plywood 4x8 sheets when the seats are folded down. You can lay them FLAT) it is super comfortable, makes a great drunk taxi that anyone can drive, I had an 18 gallon tank, and I could go for 450-500 miles per tank no ****. I loved that stupid van, but they took it away as an option a couple years back. Now I have a Dodge Journey. The great thing about Dodge cars is they have a touch screen entertainment system standard. It doesn't play movies or anything, but it is convenient, and I love having steeringwheel audio controls standard, and a USB port hidden in the arm rest. You get alot with Dodge cars
My Dad just picked up an 09 Chrysler Town and Country, and he loves that fricken thing! 2 DVD players, wireless head phones, leather, stow n go seating. Touch screen GPS. It is actually pretty sick for a mommy missile.
You really need to drive one. I called them mommy missiles and things like that till I drove it. I really can't explain how much fun that stupid thing was. And if you have a large dog, they LOVE it probably more than you do. I would leave the seats up in the back and she'd play musical chairs during road trips. Also, they have what I affectionately called "Star Trek Enterprise" lighting in cieling. It had a cyan blue glow that came out of the seams of the center strip and you could dim it. I wanted so terribly to install an RGB light strip up there with a color and dimmer control on the dash for "mood lighting."
Also, if you go the Grand Caravan route, I think they are 5x100 bolt pattern, in which case I have a set of Work VS-XX 18x8 3 piece wheels you can put on it and be super baller.
Looks like a usdm Focus gt350/RS. Probably won't be under 30k though http://jalopnik.com/5975710/shelbys-ford-focus-st-is-a-covered-up-detroit-surprise
Ford Taurus SHO (current gen, 2010-present) +1 for the Focus ST, and they can be had for less than 30k. Minnetonka Ford has two of them and both are under 27k.
Wish I was rich and could afford another brand new car but nope, how about the new kia optima with turbo and 6spd and 30+mpg? Almost every manufacturer is putting in a turbo in the engine now like the new m5, turbocharged
Yeah... turns out forced induction is a relatively efficient way to get decent power out of small engines without having to do things like selectively disabling cylinders. Who knew?
I also really think the Cadillac ATS is going to be a really cool car. There were talks about them coming out with a type V ATS and possibly doing a twin turbo small block V8 to compete with the M3. Edit: GM Fail, just realized you can only get the 6-speed manual in the rear wheel drive models and not the AWD models. Why do they do that?
Lots of good ideas that I never thought of coming in . On the KIA last time I looked thought the turbo model was auto only. Maybe i am wrong.
x300 Jaguar (xjR would be the most fun), spoil yourself. I've had mine for three months now, it has given me nothing but a smooth ride, mountains of torque, and decent gas mileage for its heft. (4800 lbs) Oh and it goes quite well through the snow. But if you do, keep it to yourself, people dont need to know about how much car you get for the money, or that you can actually get a reliable Jaaaaag. Doesnt really meet your criteria, but its an awesome car. EDIT: to clarify what I'm talking about, anything made after 1998 is produced by ford, and made the "reliability" of the lucas electrical system seem pefect. 1995-1997 XJ6/XJ12/XJR (these would be considered x300s) are the ones to get Cliffs: FWD is for the feeble. Ford raped jag in 1998 and ruined them. Stuck686 sells piss cups.
unless it's a ford probe, bish. then it's the epitome of a world smashing, time-bendnig, traction god. brobe4lyfe
Test drove the focus st this morning..thoughts on it are. Not the best to look at super soft clutch pedal and gauges look cheap. Positives. Tight steering very little turbo lag makes a nice noise and comfortable seats. Was not able to get on it a lot due to the pavement was very cold and not able to hook up.
my 02 wrx engine wit 160k on it went on me a couple weeks ago. I just picked up a mk6 gti with less than 25k on it. 4door, 6speed, bixenon adaptive headlights, and upgraded stereo. All for under 20k. first fill up i got about 28mpg. So far i am loving it. Nice interior on them too. Also max torque around 1800rpm is pretty fun
My wife used to have a 1995 Ford Probe GT. It was a nice car. O2 sensors are stupid expensive. Timing belt was kinda spendy to have done too. But other than that, it was great. She got rid of it and got a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. Much better car. She still misses that one.
I tried using his language to express what I was looking for. I have the utmost faith that Google Translate was effective in the task.
Was going to test drive the brz today but looked out the window and called the dealer. They said no go. O well prob for the better it would alot more fun to test drive on a warmer snow free day is my guess
I'll respond in your language... dickbutt semen stain google**** Try the frs. I found it easier to get a test drive.
