I've been interning at my current job for almost a year now, and I've been very patient waiting for a job offer. I've even set up meetings to talk about my future opportunities, yet they always lead into my internship being extended. I feel like they are just taking advantage of cheap labor :(

I'm wondering if anyone here has any connections with a marketing or advertising agency (or even internal marketing at a company)? I'm sick of waiting for my "opportunity" where I'm currently at, so have decided to play the field a little bit. I would most likely only be qualified for an entry level position with my lack of experience (just out of school). If anyone has any connections, I'm all ears!

Quick run down of my qualifications:

    - Graduate of St. Thomas with a major in marketing and in business communications.
    - Had a job throughout school doing market research.
    - Am currently at a promotional marketing agency, and have been here for about half a year.
    - Obligatory plug of knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project :)

If you want to know more, I can send over my resume. I hope something comes of this!

Shoot me a PM with your information. One of my best friends on the department is a manager with Carmichael Lynch and I'll make sure he gets your info to forward on to the right people.

nice, a fellow UST grad. i graduated in 03' and went to the U to continue studies. finished with another degree in 06' (so a total of 6yrs and 2 degrees for me). it took me about 3 months to find a solid job. even that was a contract. 8 months later i was let go, but that same day i had something lined up and got a FT position. been there ever since...

Its a tough market right now, but just flood the job pool market where you can. a good place is those online deals like monster, careerbuilder.com, etc...

    good luck man!!!

Ya, I've posted my resume on those career sites. I do get a lot of e-mails about my resume, but most of them are for telemarketing and door to door sales crap. I'm just trying to pick through and find some good ones.

Hmmmm....actually as I'm typing I'm getting a call from a strange #, that usually means job potential. I will update with their voicemail :)

EDIT: Lame, it's from this scam of a place that recruits for a desk marketing job...then send you "into the field" dropping you off in a neighborhood asking you to sell door-to-door. They go by a ton of different names too.

I am weary of posting my resume on Monster and other such sites as I get numerous calls/emails from people working for Primerica and other pyramid scheme places. But the database of all the open positions is always useful.

Meh, it doesn't really bug me as they usually call/e-mail once and if I don't respond they leave it at that.

are you talking about Bay Inc.? BAP Inc? or "something--marketing concepts" (forgot the full name) They say they are a "prestigious marketing firm", but have no company website.

You're telling me...this is getting rough. I have been without a job since 9/26. The agency I was just at---martin williams---apparently they let more people go, and they used to have floors 26, 27, 28, and 29 of the RBC plaza downtown---and they just closed the ENTIRE 26th floor. Damn.

Yeah I have seen those guys dozens of times...jeez. lame.

Yeah---it's time to take a step back. No avoiding it at this point. I hear that almost every ad agency is making cut backs---when business have less for a budget and are letting people go, they have much less $ for advertising dollars. Many people disagree on that. My roommate says ad agencies are recession proof because people always need to advertise--but you would be surprised. Many places simply can't make it happen, and I think that is going on right now. Sucks...

Primerica is terrible. Those guys called me once, and didn't leave a message--(I didn't know who it was at first). I called back, and I said "yeah I am looking to see who was trying to reach me..etc" and they said, hold on, let me get someone on the phone for you. Then they sniper-pitched me a job offer for their pyramid scheming ways. They continue to call and leave me voicemails asking if they can "scratch me off their list or pursue me as a candidate"---I keep telling them to stop calling. unreal. Mike Hayward---if this guy calls--make him regret it.

No way! That dude is insane. My god. Doesn't he get the hint? seriously. If someone tells you to stop calling and ignores future calls and messages, maybe that means something. I wonder if he is married or how he does with the women.

I worked at a T-Mobile store... I thought I suggested that to you already. It's decent, but you want a busy location to make good commissions. If you can handle weekly robberies, go for it.

On a side note, I got hired for a job, my first day was last Thursday, and just 3 days later, on Monday of this week, they let me go. UNREAL

yeah, and strangely they are after the phones, rather than the money...because in most cases, the phones are worth more than all of the cash we have. If you do like Verizon or Sprint, you won't have that issue. It's the GSM phones that take SIM cards that are appealing to the crooks.

Not a bad place to work if you can tolerate the drama. I hear Verizon pays well and does pretty well.

This^. It took my younger bro ~2yrs to get into the VA as a nurse assistant despite desperate need for male workers. He just got done with new hire orientation.

It is a horsesh!+ job market, particularly for the service sector. Best wishes.

I took a part-time retail job just to make enough to cover my car and various household expenses. It will get me .. a little bit more than unemployment did - with a bi-weekly paycheck.

I like retail a lot more than sitting in a cubicle, though ... I can goof off and be silly at work and everyone goes with it. I don't have 8 bosses breathing down my neck setting ridiculous goals and then chastising me when I can't reach them because they are unreasonable. It's simple work, but it doesn't leave me feeling drained at the end of the day

plus, with PT, i get weekends in the middle of the week. I don't care if I work on Sundays, either .. as long as my sat nights are free (which they are) :)
