I feel like this should be a FS thread, but it's so far off topic that I figured it was better served out here. If Mods think it should be moved, my apologies and feel free.

Basically I'm looking for anyone who may have connections with professional clarinet/sax players, college music programs, well funded high school music programs, community or professional bands and orchestras, etc...

I have a Selmer Paris Model 40 EEb Contra-Alto Clarinet that I'm trying to sell. It features a .988" bore, two-piece rosewood body, range to low Eb, 18 keys, 7 covered finger holes, silver-plated keys-bell-neck, floor peg.

It just came back from a full tune-up and once-over at a local woodwind specialty shop (Midwest Musical Imports) and is in extremely good condition. It's a pretty rare/uncommon instrument, so I am trying to look everywhere for anyone who may be interested. Hence this long shot posting.

I stress that this is a professional level instrument, not something for your 6th grade neighbor kid in beginning band (unless they're a prodigy or something), and the price reflects it.

    Asking price is $10,500

So if anyone has any connections, feel free to pass this on, or have them contact me. I will be happy to PM anyone my work email and phone number.

Yeah, NO. Not a good place to sell something like this.

My wife is a music teacher and in the grad program at St. Thomas. I'll ask her if she knows anybody to contact.

Also, you may want to try contacting a prof that teaches private clarinet lessons at a good college. If this is your instrument, you'll know that at a decent (private) school, instrument instructors tend to play professionally. (At least, when I was in the Music Program many of the private lesson instructors also performed professionally. My voice teacher sang at the Met at one point.) They would most likely know a good place to start or a place to consign this thing.

Nice instrument, BTW. Lower-range reeds FTW.

This is my instrument and unfortunately it hasn't really gotten use in way too long. I keep telling myself I'll get back into it, but it hasn't happened. Now that I'm going back to college for a second degree I can't justify having it sit around when the money could help pay for school. Plus it's not good for something like this to just sit around.

I tossed it on CL for giggles, but I'm not expecting anything. Already gotten one bogus email and I'm sure more will come.

Thanks for passing this on. I'm trying to avoid consignment at all costs. The place I had it serviced REALLY wanted me to consign it with them, but I want to keep my 10%-14%. I'm expecting this to take a long time to sell, so there isn't any real rush.

And thanks, it is a beautiful horn with an amazing sound. I ended up getting it in high school when our wind ensemble got invited to the NBF at Carnegie Hall. The one my school was borrowing got taken back a month and a half before the performance, so we ended up buying one.

Well, you could always put up flyers at music schools. Find the Music building at St. Thomas, St, Kate's, the U, etc. They will invariably have a bulletin board you can post a flyer on. You may get a bite.

    Better than Craislist, anyway.

Carnegie is a great Hall. I sang there my Sophomore year in college.

Was it really trippy for you too? The onstage sound was so much different than anywhere I have ever played. It actually made it hard to play since none of us were used to hearing so much of the rest of the band at the same time.

Heh, then we had the IATSE union guy come out and yell at our parents that they couldn't take pictures or anything because of the union rules. That didn't sit well:hsugh:

And good point about the boards.

I sang there in a large choir and full orchestra. We did Mozart's Requiem.

It was the largest hall I had sung in at that point. I was actually surprised how poorly I was able to hear the other voice parts. The orchestra, however, did ring loudly. I could barely hear the soloists. I would have liked to have heard what it sounded like from the house.

We were told beforehand that pictures were not allowed. Too bad. I have no proof that I was on stage.

It was a cool experience singing there. The house was maybe half full, which was a little disappointing. But, considering the size, I guess that wasn't that bad.

I know it isn't at all relevant to cars, but I figure it's worth looking everywhere. You never know who someone on here may know.
