Title is fairly self explanatory. I'm interested in driving the Minnesota Valley Winter Rally if I can find myself a co-driver. If you're unfamiliar with TSD rallying, it comes down to hitting checkpoints at exactly the correct time. Can't be too fast or slow. You don't know exactly where the checkpoints will be. This is achieved largely by calculating mileage against a synchronized clock to find out how far you SHOULD have driven vs how far you've actually gone (well, technically it's what time you should be at your current position vs what time you actually show up, but you get the idea). Speeds are usually at or very near the speed limit. Of course 30mph on a gravel MN road in the middle of February is... brisk... There's a lot of fiddly math and navigation involved... Anywho, here's the link for the event, it's on Feb 11: https://sites.google.com/site/mnwisroadrally/mvwr It's probably worth mentioning that these things tend to be all-day affairs. If you can't focus or you get car sick riding shotgun for several hours, this is not for you.
I'm not planning on being competitive. I've only driven in one, co-driven a handful of others. I'll be happy if I make it through the route correctly.
Too bad it starts at 4pm and I need to catch a flight the following morning otherwise I'd be interested in coming out.
Here's some brief in-car footage from last year's event. Sounds like Clarence Westberg (rallymaster) behind the wheel: Anyone who is interested in co-driving, please send me a pm/conversation.
To those who were interested before, the next road rally is this coming Sunday. Curry and I will most likely be running this together, depending on flight patterns and wind speed: http://mnsubaru.com/threads/muddy-waters-tarmac-road-rally-map-3-25-2012.38707/
