I have a 2002 WRX in need of some TLC... Primarily I need the front Dif, Timing belt, and cam seals worked on. I'm sure my fluids are needing work as well, but for starters those three things are what i need done on my car. The problem is I don't have a lot of money to throw into this project, but i do have trades. Some of which are very nice trades. Along with a little cash, I have guns and my own two hands for work. If you live near Maple Grove and you are interested in talking more about my project, please feel free to send me a private message or you can even respond to this thread. I do have plenty of other work to do on my WRX so i would be willing to trade a great running Bonneville SSei straight across to address everything i need done. Thank you
I would be willing to do the timing belt in trade for something in the realm of $100 worth of stuff, but you would need buy the parts, which I can also help with as I work at a subaru dealer. I live in Monticello.
Can you do the cam seals? I think these will go together, since they are right next to each other. Thanks for the response though!
Well, for me to do cam seals on a wrx you run the risk of needing new cam sprockets, sometimes they are a total bitch and need to be destroyed, does the car run and drive right now?
It runs and drives, but there is significant oil coming from what we believe to be the cam seals directly. I'm no mechanic but a friend that looked at it suggested that it be done. If i can not find anyone to do everything i need, i may end up doing everything one by one. Until then, i need to keep looking until i find a mechanic who will want to do everything i need done in one swoop... Lower the overall cost, time, driving, etc...
I can help you with all of those things, but I would need cash, not trades. How many miles and what's up with the front diff? ~Dan
Saw your ad on craigslist about this. Thought someone wouldve had this work done by now. Is this the two tone wrx?
I thought the same thing Ronnie... Ya two tone subi in need of Love... It's just sitting in my driveway, i think she's crying a little..
Well like I said i don't have much money.. 144k and the front dif makes a clicking noise.. A friend of mine and I looked at it already and we believe it is the front left knuckle not engaging the cv axle or it's the front dif messed up.. If you can't take legit trades and money, this wont work.. F & C K the economy!
We put the car on blocks, put it into gear and pin pointed the noise. It came from the front dif, left side right where the CV joint connects to the front dif. Without pulling the axle we could only assume it was one of the two reasons i mentioned. It's not a shot CV axle like one would think from the clicking noise.
I have a spare front diff for sale, just FYI. Let me know if you find some cash and want to make your car run like new! ~Dan
loud grinds, pops, clanking from the front differential. Drivers side front wheel has no power to it. Axle is all the way in. Without taking it apart I think it was a safe assumption the front differential is hurting.
hey Thanks Dave I just realized there were two pages and I didn't see you had posted! Ya i agree it doesn't have much mechanically to do, i just need to do something.. I feel like i'm breaking Subaru Code owning a Complete WRX and not even driving it.. that's what it seems... I'm still working on selling or trading this other car i have but with no luck since it has high miles. I'm down for whatever to get this car fixed...
Andrew- sent you a PM! It should give you a good idea of what is involved with changing the timing belt. I'll send another PM about the diff. ~Dan
I know this car. Are we sure it is just a little TLC that it needs? I know the previous owner..... a little bit of TLC might be selling the issues short.
Was the previous owner a monkey? lol..... Yeah, the car is beat....but in the right hands it can be brought back to life....and after meeting Andrew and seeing how much he cares about the car...I'm sure he will get it back into good working order.
Not a monkey... but a shell of the person he used to be. Lets just say his focus wouldn't be on keeping the car in great running order.... just keeping the car running to go and get orders.
Yes, there may be some underlying problems that can only be found by really tearing into the car. Send Andrew another PM about the front diff. It sounds like he really wants to get it up and running in good order. So hopefully another buyeye will be saved. ~Dan
