Well, after unsuccessfully trying to near give my car away, I think I'm forced to fix it. Looking for anyone who would be willing to trouble shoot and fix my RS, I will pay for your time, but basically someone who really knows there ****. I don't have the place or time to do this myself. Lemme know if your interested, I'm in Duluth. Thanks, Adam
What are the problems you think are present? It may help people who want to know what they are getting into.
it runs, it just has a problem, not sure what. Its a 99 RBP with 68k and it has a FAT stage 2 turbo kit and unfortunately is an auto. After it warms up when cruising between 2000 and 2500 RPM, RPMs will drop off and bog down if you step on the gas. Could be something simple, know it has a VAC/boost leak, and throws a O2 sensor check engine light.
I can do that, i'm not that retarded, I just don't have time or place to figure out if thats it and what not.
Did you ever tried to put on a wideband to see what it reads when you transition from light throttle to WOT or half throttle? It would be something to look at to see if it's a fueling issue. I remembered when our friend's WRX had a clogged fuel filter and we tried EVERYTHING to find out what it was.... a simple fuel filter *sigh*
well, if it's bogging, it could be plugs...they could be fouling, and you would have hesitation and bogging fo sho. Those are recommended every 50K, but I tend to do mine every 30k...now. Replace the O2's as well if you're lighting up. If that fuel filter is over 15k old, replace it. You should run a bottle of good fuel injector cleaner through it as well. It takes 20 minutes. Also...try changing the PCV, if you feel like covering your bases. All these things will narrow it down to it being a big problem or a small one. Plus, they're cheap fixes besides the O2's. my $.02
I would fix the obvious first. You have a Check engine light on for O2. Fix it. If its a wideband O2 that will be a big part of your problem. I don't remember which year they switch to wideband. If you have a bad TPS it could do the same symptom but not necessarily throw a CEL code. What do you mean by RPM will drop off? The needle drops to Zero?
I'll step on the gas and the RPMs go down to about 1500. The spark plugs are a step colder and are bout 8000 miles old. I'll probably change the 02 sensors and I have a replacement PCV. I've run fuel injector cleaner a couple times, now fix. Thanks for the tips also but I kind of figured it was one of many of these things, but this isn't a help me fix it thread, as I stated I don't have the time or the place so this is a looking for someone to make some money fixing it for me thread.
are you kidding me? ITS YOUR 02 SENSOR! it has no idea what your car is doing for fuel so its totally wacking out
still missing the fact that I'm looking to pay someone to do this for me, seems to be getting lost in translation.
fair enough. pay me to track down your vacuum leak, replace your 02 sensors, and then test drive until I'm sure the problem is gone. I'm in duluth. seems pretty dumb to pay someone to do a few simple things, but if you want to do it, I'm your man. I'm broke and in Duluth.
make a play date and get that **** fixed! cant have a members car running like a bag of hot poo in the sun! it really sounds like a simple fix...if the car runs usually that means that your not going to run into any large problems but somtimes **** happens. if the code reads that the O2's need changing...id change them right away no matter what the situation. getting that out of the way is always key to finding the proper solution. how much do the sensors cost?
