Hey Everyone. I've been on here for some time now, actually since before I even bought my first vehicle when I was 16. I planned to buy a Subaru but ended up wanting a truck (I was kind of a goof in high school, much more intelligent now.) and went that route and now I've owned 7 or 8 vehicle in the past 4 years since but that's a long story for another thread. (No, I didn't wreck any of them).

I recently sold my Jaguar X-Type leaving me with my 3/4Ton Suburban and between it's size and 9mpg It really doesn't make for a great Daily Driver. So I finally want to get into a Subaru. I was specifically leaning towards a Legacy GT 05 Body Style. I don't plan to modify it. I'm just looking for a clean stock reliable but still fun car. (I suppose that's what half the other guys on here thought when they bought theirs though )

So I've come here to see what the experts (Giving you all more credit then you deserve maybe) have to say. What common problems to look out for and all that Jazz. I'd be open to an Impreza as well and maybe even a forester. I will say now though that I only want a Manual Transmission car. So tired of Automatics :(.

Did I type enough yet? Oh and Hi Ross... If your still Around here somewhere.

Want manual 05 Body Style Legacy, What Should I lookout for.

The thing that keeps me from the Legacy/Outback is the integrated factory stereo. It is very difficult to do anything with it. Other than that nice car.

I have had several Subarus including a 2005, 2006 and 2008 STi. Also had a Saabaru 2006 92X. I currently have the 2008 STi and 2002 WRX. I briefly had a 2006 Legacy GT with a 5spd, it was a nice ride, I thought it needed a tune and maybe stage 2. The 2008 STi is by far my favorite.

Well I was considering an LGT but buying a used one sounds like it's 50/50 on how it will treat me depending on previous maintenance. That and I'm now leaning towards a Forester or an outback since I'll probably be selling the Bourbon.

Well I'd like to stay under 13grand but if I found the perfect car for a bit more I could go more.

Trying to find a relatively new Subaru with lower miles and a manual is not an easy task.

10 years old isn't really "relatively new". Hahaha. These cars hold there value fairly well. I would think that you may have to compromise a bit on either year/mileage/price/model. But i wish you luck!! :)

When I was looking, I test-drove a 2008 WRX with 30k miles and they were asking $23k. As much as I didn't really want to, I ended up buying new because the used cars hold their value too well.

You'll have to look outside of the Minnesota market to get a decent wrx that isnt old for 13k. I got my FXT for 4k under book in New York.

I sold my 13 WRX for $22k. The dealership has it listed for more than the MSRP from 2 years ago. Used Subies hold their value really well. I've gone new twice for that very reason.
If you want a comfortable ride, don't get an STi as it will jar you around. Stick with a regular WRX. Great car to have, but spendy. (Worth every penny though)

Well I'm defiantly not looking for an STi and I really don't need anything turbocharged. I may kinda want one but honestly I just want something reliable. I don't care for the look of anything brand new and I don't want to spend THAT much money. But at the same time I know Reliable & Cheap don't go together. That's why I was thinking around 13 would get me a good used Subaru. Sadly the few manual ones I'm coming across are all WRX's and STi's. That or beat to hell overly modded cars.

and I suppose I shouldn't say relatively new as I'd consider buying anything newer then 2000 hahaha. Just depends on how the cars been taken care of over the years. Yea I know I'm looking for a diamond in the rough but I just got to wait for the right one to pop up.

Can't I just find a clean stock manual Subaru!?

I've found a whole pile of cars I like that are in the right price range in great condition with lower miles but there all automatics! I really don't want to have to settle for an automatic.

As much fun as this would be I'm not up for another project right now lol My last project car took to long for me to finish and then I still had to sell the parts car D:
Darn! The seller removed it! I never even got to see the ad.

Looks decent, price seems fine. I love my forester, do wish it was a manual but had to compromise with the wife. I would definitely look outside of Mn. I picked up my car from a Military guy that had recently moved to Wisconsin from Texas. Car had under 35K miles when I bought it and was spotless. GL with the search, just try to make sure you can get service records with them to make sure maintenance was up to date.

So I've looked around at other posts on the internet and seen some answers but my latest question would be: Are head gaskets a common issue still with 07 2.5 N/As??
