One May rolls around, it will be the two year anniversary of my graduation from college -- and the two+ year anniversary of my frustrating job search. I have a job right now making ok money at a factory (~$36k/year, maybe more), but it's just that: a job, not a career.

I've tried the headhunter thing, but they all tell me the same thing: we won't work with somebody right out of school; you need experience. Thus, I've spent the majority of my job search just sending out an endless amount of resumes (probably over 200 now), only to either get no response, or a few interviews here and there. I'd also like to add that my school's (NDSU) career services center sucks. Ugh.

So now I'm asking for my fellow scooby family for help, since I don't really know anyone down here in the cities. Thus I'm going to try and do the networking route.

I suppose I should mention that I have a BS in mathematics and a minor in finance (mostly stocks, bonds, futures and accounting classes). Thus, my options are rather open. Ideally, I'd like to get into more of a technical-based position (engineering or computer), but with my finance background, I'm willing to look into that option also.

So, if anyone on here can help a guy out, I would GREATLY appreciate it! PM me if you would like a copy of my resume.

    Tom :D

How about a career as a Financial Advisor? I received two offers, I can hook you up with them if your interested. Making somewhere in the $60k annually. With the economy starting to pick up, this would be a great place to be. As far as computers, there is too much competion right now.

I graduated from NDSU also; career center is of no help what so ever. I graduated back in '02 when things were terrible as far as jobs go.

Wish I had some opportunities for you, but I don't, I'm pretty much looking right now also.

    Good luck!

I've gone to two different group seminars (Primerica and AMEX Financial), and decided that something like that isn't for me. If there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that I don't want to get into sales of any type.

And yeah, as far as computers goes, I've basically stopped searching for those jobs. You know it's rough when a $12/hr helpdesk job gets taken by some guy with 15 years of programming experience.

The railroads are all hiring like crazy right now. I don't know what IT positions they may have available but I know it's well worth looking into. The railroads pay you a boatload of money, you get ridiculously good benefits, and the retirement plan I've heard pays upwards of 6k-8k a month once you leave, which is 30 years. I'm a conductor at Union Pacific, just started a month or so back, but I plan on staying here until I retire or get killed on the job... whichever comes first.

Ok. Here are a few companies that I'd REALLY like to get in with. I'd be looking for an entry-level or even an internship (hell, I'll even be thier janitor if that's what it takes to get me in the door) position. So, if anyone has any connections to hook a young nerd up with, it would be greatly appreciated. :D
