Engine grenaded while she was driving home. Sounds like something in the bottom of the engine let loose. Not a huge surprise, but we're still a bit sad.

On the plus side, time to shop for a new car! Also got to drag the Foz home down hwy 100 with my RS. :)

    RIP 1998 Forester S:

Short and long blocks are easy to come by. A pile get sold over on RS25.

While tempting, I have to be realistic. The thing I have least of is time. If there's time for wrenching it's going to be on my RS.

Besides, we have some very rattly suspension, probably struts needing to be replaced. The interior is starting to come apart in some places, various dash lights are on (e-brake, abs), cruise doesn't work. Basically, it's an old car and lots of little things are starting to pile up. Even after dropping in a new block, I could dump a few thousand into it. Just simply not worth it. I'd consider an auto WRX swap, but I'd still have to pay someone to do it for me.

If anyone is really interested PM me with an offer/questions.

For anyone who's curious, it has 200k miles (auto tranny), tires are year old Goodyear Triple Assurance in great shape, struts are likely shot - there's a lot of clunking in the suspension but I can't find anything obvious or loose, interior is in good shape especially the seats, exterior is in pretty decent shape - we also had the windshield replaced last year and had rust under it fixed at that time. Nothing else major known wrong. ABS & e-brake lights stay on all the time, cruise doesn't work, drivers door handle broke a couple weeks ago. That about covers it.
