    Hey Folks,

A few weeks ago I found the STi I was looking for in Georgia and flew from the Twin Cities to buy it. The first day of ownership included driving the Tail of the Dragon, pretty amazing, something I suggest to anyone with the opportunity. I will be making another trip down sometime next year. The car is a 2008 Aspen White STi base model with a bit over 20k(28k now!), the owner had a few things already installed:

    Cobb Accessport(Beta 1.06 AEM S2 93+)
    Invidia catted downpipe
    Magnaflow cat-back exhaust
    AEM Intake
    Cobb springs
    Cobb adjustable shifter
    Cobb shift knob
    shifter bushings
    Kenwood DNX 7120 Navi
    Rotas
    Hawk HPS pads

    Plans:

    RCE Regular Guy springs(Maybe yellows)
    Whiteline 22/22 sway
    Whiteline rear sway braces
    Performance alignment
    Grimmspeed EBCS
    Protune by Jorge
    Change all fluids
    06 BBS with winter tires

    Things Im looking into:
    Aquamist methanol injection
    different cat-back
    Grimmspeed PnP headers

Hope to learn more about the local scene and dig into this car. Some photos(Click on these):

Hello! just realized now you live in Como, grew up there, nice place to live. What WRX are you getting?

Howdy! Nice looking car. I'd suggest an E-85 tune instead of the meth injection.

Why is that? I wouldnt want to run E-85 all the time as its sometimes out of the way, and bigger injectors dont lend themselves well to running 93(sometimes 91). It seems like quality methanol injection(Aquamist) is capable to evenly distributing the atomization to all cylinders. I admit Im just starting to learn about both methods so input is appreciated

Unless I had a failsafe for the failsafe for the failsafe, I wouldn't run meth/water injection on my daily driver either. E85 is a little more practical especially if you live in the cities or anywhere else where it's readily available. That said, I've always ran my street cars on pump and just upgraded the hardware if I wanted more power... then again 400+hp/tq is plenty for me yet nowhere near enough for some people. Personal preference I suppose.

Anyway, welcome and I hope we see you around at some local meets.

I have to agree with what has been said here. I know you'll have your opinions about meth/E85. I'm running E85 and I'd much rather deal with the inconvenience of finding fuel as opposed to refilling meth. Just my opinion though. If you do run E85 be sure to bookmark this on your comp/mobile device:

Yeah, we love it. I live between the fair entrance, and the main como entrance.

I'm looking at a 2002 wagon (white) for a second time this weekend.

An auto-x prepped miata is fun (complete with rollbar), yet not entirely practical for my 50+ mile a day commute, so hopefully it all works out.

We should have a EW/Subaru meeting sometime.

EDit: as far as the W/M goes...personally, I would just get a larger intercooler and call it a day. I ran E85 in one of my saabs (had a GT30), and it's easy enough, but unless you are going for large power levels, I would not bother. That's just me though.

Because a tune for E85 is easier and safer. You pump it in your tank and it provides you with power increases over premium pump gas. You don't need to monitor a secondary fluid tank, you don't have to worry about injection system failures or clogs on a secondary system, and you can buy it right at the pump.
Bigger injectors don't have any more problems pumping 93 octane out of them than they do 110, E85 or whatever else. They aren't discriminatory, they pump fluids. I run 1000cc injectors on 92 octane all day, and have done so without issue for 3 years. (Well, aside from the issue of them not liking the signals from the 2004 WRX ECU very much, but that's a different issue)
Aquamist is neat if you don't have access to E85 or leaded race fuels. Here in MN, we have both of those things at the pump. E85 is found at nearly every station you come across, especially in the Twin Cities area. And 110 leaded can be found at a few stations during the summer. With that said, you are better off running those fuels rather than having a secondary methanol tank that you have to monitor and installing secondary delivery systems you have to keep up with and maintain.

Thats a pretty nice area, quiet for all but a few weeks of the year too. White wagons are they way to go, great looking color and it hides Subaru.s not so great paint quality. Would be interested in a EW/Subaru meet, could just be at KHC on a Friday/Saturday. Also the GR STi's have a larger intercooler than previous years, upgrades really only benefit a larger turbo(this could be misinformation, lots of reading to do).

Thanks, some good points, and after looking at the E85 locations, its everywhere around me. Looks like I will be seriously considering this now. Thanks

+1 on the meth comments, if you want to run something other than pump, E85 is the way to go. With that said, you'll probably see a pretty good gain even with a custom tune over that AP basemap.

Congrats on joining the Subaru world!

Thanks Bullwinkle! Im pretty sure theres more to be had with the current setup, as its already running slightly rich, as a basemap should. E85 looks promising the more I read, even with the stock turbo, the reliable gains are impressive.

So, I guess I just bought some DW 850cc injectors and P&L's Walbro 255Lph kit. Likely wont be tuned until mid October, excited nonetheless

Good luck - I think you made a wise choice. My bigger injectors make for some interesting noises on pump gas. I have been meaning to get a E-85 tune. Maybe soon.

According to e85prices.com, Georgia has 39 stations with e85. Minnesota has 375. So I can understand the meth thing in Georgia, but you can drive pretty much anywhere in MN and find e85.
