What is this all about? I realize it is two days of instruction, but is it required to enter a Rally X event? And if not, why would one what to attend as opposed to just going out and figuring it all out? Is this connected with a different racing series that the "Treading Thin Ice Rally X" event?

I got word that MAC Novice school is cancelled due to snow removal at the Midway stadium site.

MAC is primarily an autocross club, but certain members do HPDE, ChumpCar, RallyX, Ice Racing, etc.

RallyX is super laid back by comparison. MAC autocross school not required in any way, shape or form for RallyX.

There have been RallyX schools in the past that are basically just lots of seat time with instructors if you want them.

Note that for a RallyX event, depending on the course conditions you may get as few as 4 runs total for the day as opposed to a RallyX school where you might get 40.

Same thing for autocross. An event might get you 6 runs while a Test and Tune or school might get you 50.

This is a 2 day instructional series for MAC autocross. The first day is a classroom session and the second day is on course with an instructor riding along. It's a very well structured and informative event. You'll learn the ins and outs of autocross (rules, how events are run, etc...) as well as receive instruction on basic car control. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in performance driving and car control (regardless of whether you plan to autox or not).

This has nothing to do with rallycross.

You can certainly just go out and start autoxing. The Novice schools aren't a prerequisite to running at a MAC hosted event. However, most people will learn more about car control in these 2 days then they would in several events (or even a full season) figuring it out on their own.

This is indeed a different "series" than the upcoming rallyx. That rallyx is hosted by SCCA-LOL, which is a different club than MAC, GLQC (who hosts the Lake Cynthia ice driving events), MN Austin Healy Club, Northstar BMW CCA, etc...

Thanks for all the info! I totally missed the whole "autocross" part of this. Turns out there's a lot of stuff a guy (or gal) can do with his car! I looked into autocross a bit when I had my civic, seemed to be a great way to eat through tires :)

My preferred split for a Minnesota calendar year:
    Winter: Ice driving and RallyX
    Spring: RallyX and AutoX
Summer: AutoX / HPDE / ChumpCar
    Fall: AutoX and RallyX

A Subaru is just about perfect for all of those things. If I didn't have this stubborn attachment to RWD cars, I could consolidate my damn garage.
