Ok, anyone up for MAM on Friday June 20th. This would be for a MAM's Fast Friday's. They open the track at 9am and close it down at 7pm. Sounds like there's a lot of track time and they usually see around 15-30 cars (I know, big range...but even at 30 that's not too bad). Not a full weekend event, but should get you a lot of track time. I'm going as are two friends of mine. I'd love to see others out there, but I know it's not always easy to get time off work...and then there's the expense of doing something like this. We'd likely run down on Thursday evening after work, drive all day Friday and then drive back that evening. That's a little ambitious given that you're usually tired after a full day event...but worth a shot. Contemplating camping at the track Thursday night, or get a cheap hotel room in Council Bluffs...either way it won't be too expensive for lodging. Just thought I'd get it out there...seeing as there seems to be some interest in this type of thing...just not always a lot of participation -Mike
I'm still waiting on lowering plates. They should be here within a week now though. If there's still room by the time I get them in and installed I'll be down for sure.
There is a NASA HPDE event there the following week, I think. But if more people are going to this fast friday, I might have to come along and skip the NASA.
Check out the link and a track map while you're at it. If people show up with their Kart's, they have two run groups...else it's open track all day. http://www.midamericamotorplex.com/2006/rc_friday.asp
I can't make it to this one, no car as of yet, but it will give you time to get familar with the new car till we meet again, perhaps at another MAM event. LOL Well let me know how things go in your comparison between the STI and M3. Enjoy!
Bump, waiting to hear back from 1fastbadger regarding how the new Black M3 did at MAM! Did the Badger become road kill or did he receive a contract offer? Where is this guy?
Uh, fast friday's are about the greatest track event out there. I say that because of the following reasons: A) track open from 9-7 (if the open wheeled car hadn't showed up it would have been completely open all day, but they had to have 2 run groups). B) got 9 sessions in...I'd like to see you do that anywhere else in 1 day. C) 10 cars were there. This is hit or miss given that the week before there were 40 cars there...but we had the track pretty much to ourselves. D) MAM is a lot of fun! For those who have done a few events, this is the way to go. Passing rules are still in place and everyone is just there to get in some good track time...not really any boneheads. Gas does make this kind of expensive (probably 4 tanks of gas total for the drive down, drive back and at the track). If you did this and then a Saturday at one of the Find the line events, that would be just about perfect. Give you some time to recover on Sunday. There was a sweet RS that had an STi swap in it too. For those who want to but on the fence...do it! Yes, up front costs can be variable but expensive. But, I see so much modding of cars and nothing being done with them...kind of a shame. I mean a set of brake pads and a brake fluid flush and many of the cars on this forum would be fun at the track. Not for everyone I suppose. update on the M3 and more on Fast Friday's: http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20835&page=8 Mike
^ is there instructors avaliable on fast fridays? iv only rode along at MAM never driven it and only have 2 days of HPDE experience at gingerman.
they do have instruction I believe once a month...you'd have to ask about it. They really only ask that you have track experience...then it's just a matter of learning the track. And with only a few cars on the track there's plenty of time to learn...and a lot less pressure than some of the other events that I've done.
Did not camp at the track. Wanted to, but figured that we'd be doing so much driving just for 1 track day that we might as well sleep comfortably for the night. Plus, with all the water, I was worried a tent might float away
