Just wondering if anyone has thought about this. I get so sick of seeing stuff in the FS section with no price or "Give me an offer" then they get butthurt when you throw them an offer that clearly they didn't like. Everyone has a price in mind. I don't see why it's so hard to say "Asking $xxx OBO".

this thread isnt needed and i think it will get locked. people can charge what they want to charge and those kinds of people are looking to rip you off, when you high ball them. nothing we can do will change that.

this thread will be locked i feel, but i agree with you. :)

    ^Shut up!

No I feel the same way Ryan, if you want to sell something include the price. Obviously if they have it for sale they considered selling it and should know roughly what they want for it. It takes the guessing out of it and makes the transaction less stressful for both parties.

It SHOULD be required, dont know what its worth? do some research on it, or throw a retarded price out there and see what happens.

PS: someone can buy my car for 10K

Makes sense, but I don't think it'll happen...or how it'd even be enforced.

I think this is a good idea also, it'd be nice to have an idea of what you'll need to pay when you're looking at something.

That would be easy, the mods could just delete all fs threads with out prices(albeit it does require more work from the mods).

Why in the world would this thread be locked because of the OP?

    Great idea Ryan.

There used to be a sticky that readymix wrote on how to make a proper FS/WTB thread.

There is currently a short announcement sticky from Shibbs.

There is also a blurb in the general site rules about the FS forum.

I think the information from the above stated threads, your suggestion, and WRX1's suggestions on how to deal with handraisers should be compiled into a rule set for the FS/WTB forum and stickied at the top of the forum.

I used to visit a site that would REQUIRE you read the FS forum rules and enter a password every time you would enter the FS forum. The password was listed at the end of the FS forum rules thread.

OBO means "or best offer", don't bitch if someone offers lower. "$xxx FIRM" means you want that amount. Seems pretty simple to me.

    FS Changes?

Ok, besides the obvious FS requirements then let's get into other requirements that should be added such as # of post required before being allowed to post FS items. kcsubaru has this set at (15) and other rules that are actually posted and not assumed which make it totally clear. Only thing posted now is something about "NO FLAMING" for the usual cowards behind the screens.

Appreciate all the mod's work but just making an observation so please don't get cranky due to some constructive criticism. :)

    ___________________________

We have this section available to our members to help sell and trade their personal items only. If you wish to advertise a product or service that you personally or your company sells, please contact XXXX or I to become a KCSubaru.com sponsor/vendor.

    ***********EDITED****************

You must have 15 posts and be a member for more than 1 month to add a topic to the For Sale section or must have authorization from one of the moderators to post. **Wanted Ads are OK to post** Your topic will be immediately removed if you do not meet the requirements.

******Also we are not responsible in any way for the item or transaction. If for some reason you run into a problem with a member and have a complaint let the Admin know.

When posting an item for sale/wanted.

    - Please be descriptive as possible about the item you are selling/trading or wanted, such as color of the trunk lid or what car it fits... etc etc..

    - Do not constantly bump your item, once in awhile is fine, but please not everyday.

    - Try to let everyone know as well if the item sells as well. Either by putting SOLD in the title by editing your post or somewhere in the description.

    When responding to a seller

    - Postive comments and bumps are always ok!

    - If you are interested in purchasing the item, post, if not... please do not post. Responding to a seller saying they have seen that same item for $20 less can pretty much ruin their day, if someone is willing to pay $20 more, than it's obviously worth that to them.

    - Also no negative comments about the seller's item, if you feel something is wrong with the item or topic, let the Admin know.

IMO it seems as if the OP is complaining (maybe your not but it seems to me as if you are...) The FS threads seem fine to me, if someone doesn't post up a price in the FS thread shoot em a PM and ask what they want for the item, simple as that. Some people honestly don't know what some items are worth or what they can get for them so whats so wrong about saying "toss me an offer" in a FS thread? It is your choice whether or not you want to play the bidding game with the seller. If someone gets butthurt let em get butthurt, don't continue the butthurt cycle by bitching about the butthurtness of the original butthurtee, that just causes more butthurt.

    Just my elaborated .02

meh, it shouldn't have to be mandatory. but that's a pretty steep expectation.

doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I've listed things without a price before, because I don't have a price in my head, and I'm not sure if anyone would be interested at all.

pretty ambitious idea.....but I really don't like making rules to cater to the worst of the group. there are plenty of people here more than capable to realize that if they put the words "best offer" in an ad, and they get an offer they don't like, to decline it and move on.

However, in this case, by allowing such an open ended FS format, you are opening yourself (as a mod) up to an increased workload in cleaning up OT comments and "whining." With the current rule set, you will also be expected (but not obligated) to explain any deleted threads or issuing of points and warnings. Aren't OT comments, thread-derailing, and flaming all ongoing issues for this site and the Moderator team?

Don't get me wrong, I've had little problems selling (and buying) items here, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement.

Since the members agree there are fundamental problems and are offering strategies to rectify them, would it make sense to have the Moderator team add this as an agenda item (if it's not already)?

Anyway, I think it would be nice to see a standard and maybe even a template for VEHICLE sales at the very least.

I'm thinking maybe lay out some minimum requirements if you want to sell a car. The details can be discussed, but something like:

    Year
    Make
    Model
    Mileage
    Price
    Contact Info
    at least 1 interior pic
    at least 1 exterior pic

If all of these items are not posted, the thread gets deleted until the OP includes all the info... post up a stickied sample "correct way to post a vehicle for sale" thread and encourage people to follow the format... and by encourage, I mean delete it if it's wrong and pm the OP to try again after reading the sticky.

It seems we have a T in the road. Keep the regulation low and deal with whiners, or have the rules heavy and BS low.

Charge a nominal fee for listing and some level of minimum details. That will clear out a lot of nonsensical FS threads. This has worked forever on several of my other favorite enthusiast sites (note, I only surf free pR0n sites).

No hurdle perpetuates zero effort so don't put more work on the mods' shoulders (unless they're skimming on a new fee stream!).

Create a proper Classified areas that has a seller/buyer feedback function and maturity date for a given ad. Also, allow the Seller to delete their ad. Instead of endless Replies the Classified ad creates a PM/email only function that doesn't clutter the forums.

    Also, no exceptions.

PS - Motorhead (Jason) smells like feet and Cheetos!

Maybe set a new mod to be just a FS threads?

I'm on the fence about this topic. Because some times its hard to set a price for a used part. You dont wanna start low and sell for less then its worth but you dont wanna set to high and never sell. So maybe sometimes its not a bad idea to let people say what its worth to them.

so far idgets "template" is the most constructive idea on this topic..but i would also like to see added to that...pics of every item..if your car has damage..then you better show a pic..if your car has certain items that come with it but arent installed then id like to see a picture or theres no deal...and that should go for all fs items..dude i dont want to buy your rims if i cant see them..oh theyre curbed a lil..show me...i dont want to see links to websites that you purchased said item...those types of things should be strongly considered..also something like a seller rating would probably help alot. i want these things..

I agree that it would be NICE, but I DON'T see it happening for ALL FS items. I don't need to see pictures of a Kartboy hanger. If it's misrepresented, then that's a whole different subject that the "seller rating" suggestion addresses.

Maybe if we started small with just vehicles (since we have a history of our members getting burned) and tested it out, then we could extend the "required format and minimum requirements" idea to other FS items.

Hell, maybe even make a separate forum for just vehicle sales. Sure, there will be less posts in there, but that could be a good thing. It would make moderating much easier at least. It would also help buyers find cars easily and sellers won't have to worry about bumping threads as often.

Seller rating would be a great idea. Russ, do you know if you can add that functionality? If yes, do you know how? If you don't know how, can anyone lend him a hand? Maybe even link to an online tutorial... I know that it's one thing to say you want to do something, but there's usually a whole lot more to actually getting it done.

a seperate thread for cars fs only is a great idea. i dont see any of this being a problem to get started asap aside from the buyer/seller rating. this would be a beneficial thread for everyone.

and with that we could all stop the "awww Dude WTF!!!" in their for sale threads... "You could make more money if you parted it out!!"....
