in the past 2 months or so I noticed many members selling their great cars. Is this just a coincidence or has to do with the economy? I am just wondering, if other people have noticed this trend. If you look at the for sale section you can pick whatever Subaru you want.

I don't think gas price is the reason, because they went down quite a bit now.

that's funny you did this because I was thinking of making a thread just like this 20 minutes ago. Idk WTF is going on either but were losing Minnesota subaru enthusiasts like wild! I too was thnking of selling my car for another subaru but then reconciled with myself and decided I love my car

Nah, the WRX is paid off, I just wanted to be more environmentally conscious and then there was the allure of front wheel drive.

I wouldn't say we are losing Subaru enthusiasts...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that times are kind of ****ty now and cars are not first priority for a lot of people.

I think what it is, is that it just happens to be coincidence. There are also many other vehicles out on the markets that fit someones lifestyle better than a subaru. They are not a universal cure all to transportation, some need trucks, some need smaller cars, some need even better gas mileage, and some cant afford it.

I will be selling mine in a few years, but it will probably be when I am returning to MN. Most likely I'll get a company vehicle with the family buis, and buy a subaru project.

I came close to selling mine a few weeks ago.

I wanted to get a CTS-V and even listed my car on CL.

But the dealership acted like I was a first time buyer, treated me like dog doodoo, and I walked.

Now, Im going to save and get a vet or viper.

And Ill keep the suby thank you-

The funny thing is that dealership is still calling me...

I'll never understand this mentality. For me, when the dealer does this, I get excited and I use it to my advantage. Worked great for the Subaru purchase. When they treat you like crap, throw it in their face, make them look like an *******, and make a huge scene. Seriously, if you know you are getting boned on purpose, let the world know...nobody likes hearing that dealers are pulling shady business, especially on the sales floor. It turns customers away, and it makes customers at the paperwork process question their dealer and look over the paperwork more. Somebody is going to get paid no matter where you buy your car. For me, I'd much rather pay a couple grand less than what I initially was looking at, knowing that the sales person that attempted to burn me got humped on the commission for his mistake than waste gas driving all over town looking for another 'nice' dealer and pay them more for the car that I could have talked the 'bad' dealer into letting it go for to save face.

Ahh yes the car selling season is upon us. Perhaps fall is the time to sell subaru, with winter coming AWD is alluring. (except to readymix)

I would not say that we are loosing enthusiasts. For instance I have 2 Subarus (Brat and Impreza) I want to sell 1 (Brat) due to a lack of time to work on it and I could use the extra cash to fix up my DD (Impreza) Also in the future I want to buy another Subaru (Legacy).

many people are in a rough patch, and cars are really a luxury. a WRX or an STi is a damn nice machine, but not everyone can justify it if other money is tight. some on the other hand have enough money to substitute the green for rolls of TP.

there was a farmer type guy in Australia who went to a porsche dealership in overalls and flip flops... they pretty much ignored him, and talked down to him, so he walked across the street and pulled a wad of cash out of his 'overalls' and bought 2 of the sportier Mercedes (his and hers) and drove across the road and pulled up to the salesmen standing there... waved the other wad of cash at them and said a few choice words about their attitude and drove off...

They didnt know what they were getting into. All subarus are race cars, and the ones that arent are junk, if you dont race your car, you are an idiot that knows nothing. Or If you read all sorts of things on the internet about subarus, you automaticly know everything, expecially about suspension, power, and tuning, even if you have only had a subaru for just over a year.

Ya, we had a similar thing happen when I worked at Morries Nissan/Hyundai (ya ya, I know not porsche). The guy comes in looking like a bum, he gets ignored by pretty much everyone. Well when one of the nicer salesmen actually approached him, turns out he wanted to purchase a fleet of 5 Frontiers for his small business.

What exactly constitutes a "fleet?" Would four frontiers (or any vehicle) comprise a fleet? Or is five the key number in fleet status? Would six then jump up to armada status? I've always wanted to be called captain.

For me its almost all the reasons listed above. I had three Subarus, sold two to people who were interested in buying them. Bought a new Prius, it just makes sense in my situation considering how many miles we rack up. And thanks again to mr. President for his insight on how to deal with the Car Dealers. And later a new weekend car the 240sx. The economy is a big factor, but I think the biggest factor for me and I'm sure for others as well is our lifestyle.

As much as I enjoyed pounding the STI around the track, it was time to move on to another type of vehicle and a different form of sport. Plus I have the previllage of driving others cars at our events.

With that said, I want to extend a personal invitation to the members to come out to any one of out events at DCTC and I will be more than happy to test drive your cars and give you my eval, not that its worth much, but it would be a lot of fun to see it in action. I have some idea's for a future event that will be a run off of this concept, so I encourage you to come hang out.

To me it's never going to make sense that people sell an AWD right when the rough season is coming. And I don't understand who leaves their suby in storage for the winter, WTF! That's what they are made for: snow, mud, rain, gravel, dirt.

So it seems more a coincidence then, but definitely lifestyle is a major component. I already have the limited capacity of the RS trunk.

I hear ya, but it make financial sense for me...

I save over 1k in insurance, gas, parking, maintenance etc... if I store the STI and carpool to work. 2-3 winters of storage and the car is paid off 1-2 years early.

For the rare days when I have to (or decide to) drive the 5 miles, the commute isn't such that I'd be giving up much by driving the explorer over the STI... parking lot fun will still happen, but no need to drive the subaru daily.

But yeah, if the subaru ever became a financial burden, or got in the way of family, it would be sold in a heartbeat.
