Ok guys, After cleaning up a failed thread, I wanted to continue the discussion here. I love Mexican food. Start listing off places that are FTW when it comes to the mexican food. Sorry, Taco bell and chipotle don't count. I'll start with a few of my fav's: El Toro - Robbinsdale Pancho Villa - "Eat Street" aka Nicollet Ave - Minneapolis Salsa ala Salsa - Minneapolis
This thread is actually relative to my interests I just discoverd a place called Pineda Tacos in Plymouth. Haven't eaten there yet, but it's within walking distance of my apt. Anyone been there?
Ryan, out of those 3, which one would you say is your #1 fave? I'd like to get out this weekend and go get some good mexican food. Maybe Saturday for lunch? also, anyone know where I can get some fish tacos? **requirement** they HAVE to be made with cabbage rather than lettuce. Thats the only way I like them.
Well, I won't be able to join you. I'll be in vegas later this week, then fishing on Lake MI this weekend. If you and the lady are going to go, I'd probably recommend Pancho Villa. El Toro is wonderful and closer (within bike riding distance of my house), but I still think Pancho Villa is better. You know the place is good when you're the only honkey in the joint. I know Pancho Villa has a lot of seafood. They might be able to accommodate you.
we have an el toro in the area and its not very good... I always do the monday taco night at aculpoco! 50 cent tacos are my best friend:biggrin::biggrin:
Boca Chica's Taco House!!!! I can't advertise this place enough, hands down my favorite place for 'fast food style' Mexican food in St. Paul. http://www.bocachicatacohouse.com/
Mexican Food I lived in Arizona for ten years, and sure do miss good authentic Mexican food. The best I have found here in the Cities is at the Super Mercado at Bloomington and Lake in Minneapolis. Several different restaurants under one roof, fresh tortillas and chips from La Perla, and a bakery for a churro for dessert. On the upscale side, Chino Latino in Minneapolis has a great variety of food from around the world, not limited to Mexico. The tacos are great. Plus awesome drinks. Cheers. John Wolf
Same here man, I miss the mexican food in California. The Super Mercado indeed has the best authentic mexican I've tried here. The Taco Loco in Shakopee is the best in the South West metro.
El Loro in Eagan just west of Yankee Doodle/Lexington. The other El Loro locations don't hold a candle. You really can't beat this place. Enchiladas Rancheras is the best thing created by mankind. Stay away from La Fonda. Grooooosssss. I was just introduced to the Boca Chica taco at their lunch buffet on Friday. A+++ would eat again.
the burnsville location s my fav of el loro..the worst is savage. love there daiquiris and ala cart menu I used to eat here twice a week sometimes. another good place is el gordo in knolwood mall.
Yes, thanks for the correction. You would think I don't go there once a week  You can't beat their Texas margarita. My favorite spot for one.
Yes, came here to say that. If you want to get as close to So.Cal/Tijuana Mexican food stand as possible, Taco Loco is pretty much the place to go. If it wasn't 45 minutes away from me, I'd be there DAILY getting food. This makes me miss California.
Have you been to Super Mercado? The tacos are better than Taco Loco, I live like 5 minutes from Taco Loco and they are pretty good, but I think the Super Mercado tacos are better, don't know how far you are from there but you might want to give it a try.
Well, since posts in the Taco Truck thread got deleted, here's my favorites: Burrito Loco (Uptown) - fast service, and burritos are not filled with rice like Chipotle, but just as huge :yumyum::yumyum: Baja Sol (Uptown, St. Louis Park, etc.) - Think Taco Bell, but with way better selection, and free nachos and a large variety of free salsa :yumyum::yumyum::yumyum: Acapulco (Blaine, Coon Rapids, etc.) - Either .50 or .75 tacos (can't remember) on Mondays; chimichangas are the best I've ever had; cheese dip is the bomb! Also, can't pass up tall beers that are twice the size of talls anywhere else, for $4! :yumyum::yumyum::yumyum::yumyum::cheers2: La Casitas (Columbia Heights) - Been here a couple times, and have had it catered in at work. Good stuff! :yumyum::yumyum:
Nice thread, I <3 Mexican food. Ryan mentioned it, but Salsa A La Salsa is like one of my favorite local places for authentic mexican food. Best burritos are at Burrito Loco. In Dinkytown, because you can get beer, lots of it.
Taqeria Los Ocampos on Lake street in Midtown global market or their other location a few blocks away. I am willing to bet most of the people on tis forum don't make it to that neighborhood much though.
Pancho Villa - most excellent. One of the rare Mexican joints where the patrons are predominantly Hispanic/Latino. That sez something. El Loro/Eagan - excellent apres Lebanon Hills training table fare Chipotle - it is what it is. I've go with the rice-delete and double down on the black beans. Tastes good, less filling and actually healthier (unusual for a McD's related enterprise). El Tequila - a great spot on the south side of Faribault right off of I35 and Hwy 21. One of the only places I can find an effing chicken mole dish that is reasonably authentic.
I think we need an mnsubaru mexican restaurant tour - like every wednesday night we go to a different restaurant or something like that
+ 1 for Boca Chica on the West Side of St. Paul. Their food is pretty good and they have the best margaritas I've had (Cucumber margarita = refreshing & tasty). Also on the West Side, El Burrito Mercado (supermarket) has a deli style eatery inside which has excellent food. They also have a cafe next door (same owners) which serves very good food. Also +1 for El Loro in Eagan and as stated before, I've found the food varies from each location.
Anyone been to Little Tiajuanas (Little T's) in Uptown? I don't know exactly where it is, I went there in High School and never drove so I didn't pay attention to where we were going. You can draw on the tables
Yes. I've been there many times. Open till 3am. That place gives me the ****s everytime. :ugh: Still good drunk food. Also fun for people watching. It's located near 26th and Nicollet IIRC.
I'm not a fan of Little T's. Frickin soggy quesadillas, and it's bland. I never understood why people loved that place until I realized that the only time that anyone ever suggested it was when they were drunk. There is a place, I never remember the name, up in buffalo - excellent food. I think the best mexican food I've had here. Mike Wray would know what it's called.
