Crazy thing happened to me today. I was riding my ninjetta from work today on larpenture ave. I pulled to a red light and a few cars started to pull away from the left side and turning onto Larpentur. I noticed an 05 impreza outback. I did not look at the driver, just glanced at the car. The outback started to turn onto larpentur and I noticed it was driving funny, kinda slow and jerky and for some reason started to honk. So I speed up and come close to it and see that it is drifting to the right and slowly is going off the road. Then suddenly it hits the sidewalk wall and jumps like a half a foot and pulls back on the road. I figured something was wrong with the driver. I speed up and get closer, I look inside the car and see that the driver is a REALY old lady kinnda slanted to the right side. I started to yell and honk, because she was drifting to the side again. She would not stop and again hit a sidewalk wall and this time she jumped over it and drove for a bit on someone’s lawn. She got back on the shoulder where the cars were park and kept driving going like 30. Then a light turned red and I figured she is not going to stop and there was a car in front of her I again started to honk and luckily the car in front of her turned to the right and she just rolled through the red light. I kinda went with her really slowly cause the cars saw that and stopped. I got really close to her and revved the engine really loud up to like 13k and she kinda moved in the car and looked at me. And then she started to slow down but drifted fast to the right. I looked ahead and saw a guy jogging with headphones on and he did not see her cause she was coming from behind. I revved the engine up again and start honking and yelling the guy turned around and was able to jump out of the way. And that’s when she almost hit him and went over a couple of the mailboxes and hit a parked car. I got of the bike and ran to the car. Told her to turn of the car- it was still revving and moving a little bit. She was barely conscious. I asked her if she was ok, and she said that she was fine. A person came out of the house and said that she was her neighbor and she just got out of a hospital. I asked the if they needed help, but they said that they will take care of her. That’s when I left.

I was scared as hell when she almost plowed into that guy. And if she was going any faster the airbags would have killed her.

    Old people should not drive.

Thats funny. I had to give an old guy a ride at work and he was bitching cause he just got out of the hospital for having a fainting problem. He was mad cause they told him he cant drive. I was like I wouldnt want you on the road either. What if you pass out? Stubborn old people.

Wow, old drivers can be scary. I remember watching an old lady just drive an angle across 4 lanes of traffic, completely oblivious of traffic around her, to get to her exit. No signal, nothing, I had to slow down so she wouldn't hit my car.

Yeah, people need to be retested on their driving skills and health every 10 years or so, not just old people either.

When I first moved down here last year one of the first articles in the local rag was about an elderly lady killing a 17-year old girl after running a red light and hitting her broadside in the driver's side. I thought it was odd that the trial carried on for so long when it was obviously vehicular manslaughter, but the defense was arguing dminished capacity! Well duh, when can we use old age as a defense? Can I kill people once I reach a certain age and just get away with it because I'm a silly old coot out of my mind?

That old crone was lucky; had that girl been a cheerleading captain at a local high school here in TX she would have been lynched.

And now I'm reading in the paper about some guy who hit an elderly guy while he was crossing the street because he took too long getting across. But then he drove with the dead old guy on his windshield for another half mile before turning into a Sonic where the guy finally slid off. And then the driver contuned ordering lunch for himself at the drive-in. Wow, just wow.

I think most of them just fall asleep while driving or forget to take their vital medication.
