I just got my car, and I have noticed sometimes, it seems when I am coasting along at slow speed or even just barely rolling (without being in gear or anything) there are slight popping sounds, and it almost seems like the car maybe goes a bit lower when this happens. To me it feels like something suspension/shock related. I guess I really have no idea. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed anything. Coming from only the rear...

Any knowledge on that would be appreciated.

    Not exhaust?

The rear struts are quite notorious in the STi for going out. Could it be that?

the low speed out of gear sounds, as well as when hitting mild bumps---sounds just like what is going on with mine.

Should only take a couple hours but they could charge you anything from $$ to $$$$... I imagine the car is out of warranty at this point...?
No big rush to get it done, look for some used low mileage takeoffs on nasioc from an '05-'07 STi.

Well, I bought an extended warranty, which goes to 101,000 or something..since it already has a bit higher miles. Plus I am still within my dealer warranty period at Luther. Thanks for the info!

Most likely does not cover struts, wear and tear item, but I could be wrong.

What warranty? The only one that I think covers struts at high mileage is SAS Gold, from Subaru.

Whatever I bought was fairly expensive and covers turbo and all of that. I thought the guy said it covered bumper to bumper. Considering he was trying to upsell me on everything from special windshield coating to extra service and parts, I imagine he offered me the best warranty option. I could be wrong. I am not going to be happy if this strut thing is not covered, considering how many people have mentioned that it is somewhat of a known issue...

Try to lube them first. It's a good idea to get in that habbit anyway.

It would suck if they werent covered under warrenty. They are spendy if i remember correctly. I think i paid like 250-300 for just the front strut

haha i think you might have delt to my dad. my .02 go to the dealership and get an estimate, then you can either decide if you want to return to oem struts or replace them yourself and buy a good set of coilovers. and incase you were wondering renting a spring compressor would only cost you about $80 mainly for a security deposit.

Who's your dad? It was actually the finance guy that does all the paperwork that sold me the warranty. It wasn't someone in the shop. I was looking through the booklet with all of the SPT products and STi stuff and I noticed they have some struts that are meant to replace the factory ones. That would be nice, but I am kinda tapped out with $$ right now after the big purchase.

Hmmm... they are getting me in for a diagnosis thursday, they won't order the struts without seeing my car, which I guess is understandable. Still kinda makes it more work.
