Has anyone had any first hand experience with a dealer/parts distributor called "Millennium Auto Sales" in Romeo, Michigan? They have a rebuilt 2013 WRX I'm looking at. I'm hesitant about buying a car with a rebuilt title but this car fits every single one of my "wants and needs" categories. I've been searching through NASIOC and I'm only finding reviews from people who have bought parts from them. I'm also wondering if anyone has any input on buying a 2013 WRX with a rebuilt title. Thanks team! Here is a link to the car in question: http://y2kimports.com/index.php?opt...ue-14k07&catid=41:vehicles-for-sale&Itemid=27
Based solely on their grammar, I'd stay far away. As a general rule, don't buy a car with a salvage title unless you are prepared to have problems.
"Minor insurance claims" don't total a car... They are trying to sell it for $22k...this doesn't make any sense. Stay away, for that money you can get a clean titled 2011 with low miles and not have to worry about that "minor claim" in its past.
I emailed Frank, the "guy" there, to ask him what work had to be done to it. He told me that they had to replace the front bumper, the left driver fender and the hood. He said no engine work had to be done and it's been inspected by the state of Michigan and it passed all their safety and emission tests. He also said that they had a 3rd party mechanic inspect it and it passed that inspection too. I've never totaled a car, let alone been in any major accidents (broke a tail light once). But from what I hear to total a car the insurance company has to claim the damage is worth more than a certain percentage of the total value of the car. So what body work costs more than, for kicks and giggles' sake, 13 thousand dollars? I'm going to stay away but it still irks me in all the wrong ways. I NEED A WRX HATCHBACK DARN IT!!
Mines been for sale for a few weeks. Lol and its never been totaled. If people are paying 22k for marked titles maybe I should up the price on mine. Offer them 11k.
Exactly, the only way it makes sense to buy a salvage is if you get way under market value. For $22k they must be crazy.
I have bought parts from them before, was a satisfactory experience; nothing to write home about tho.
Don't touch a salvage car. They're trouble to insure and trouble to finance, plus you don't know how well the damage that totaled the car was actually repaired. http://www.foxbusiness.com/2011/06/03/5-reasons-to-avoid-salvage-title-cars/
At least this one has some history. http://www.mnsubaru.com/threads/here-she-is-gents-lady-gents.38800/
I have owned salvage title cars before, and never had an issue with the bank or insurance. I talked with both banks I use last time I bought a salvage title car; both had no issues with it. They both said, it all comes down to the credit worthiness of the borrower, the debt value of the loan compared to "their" market value, and the value of the loan/down-payment. When it comes to WRX and STi, most banks market value is already under current market, so you are at a disadvantage before you even account for the devaluation by the bank due to the salvage title. I ultimately decided to not take out a loan as I was planning to not own the car for long. Salvage title cars are a pain in the ass to sell, and that is for sure. If they are fixed properly, they can be a great car. I would not recommend someone to buy one "blind" or buy one if they do not have the ability to know exactly what they are looking at. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a salvage title WRX or STi if it could see it in person and give it a good look over, or knew who fixed it(this is the biggest part of the equation).
Correct, the owner was also the person who repaired it, and it doesn't look like they cut any corners.
I personally have dissected both millenium and colorado component rebuilders motors (the two major subaru remanufacturers in the country at present), and well, frankly I do a much much much better job. My kids could do a better job building motorscthan either of those places...seriously.
In MN, if the repair costs are 70% of ACV (actual cash value) then it's salvaged. 75% for Michigan. 22k way too high for that car.
I have a 2015 on order that will be here in May. I will give you first dibs on my 2011 WRB 5dr with 25k miles on the odometer, transferable lifetime powertrain warranty incl the turbocharger from Morries, SPT exhaust, STI short throw shifter, under seat subwoofer (not all that great but it is what it is) and AEM air filter (not CAI) running a OTS Cobb stage 1 tune. PM me if interested, if not I will list on the marketplace. All this well maintained and not raced goodness for $23k. Which I think is fair.
