A fellow autox'er of mine ( @Gumby4mayor ) is starting a new full track racing series, MN Time Attack. More info is available on the website and Facebook: http://www.mntimeattack.com/ https://www.facebook.com/MNTimeAttack I am personally very excited for these events, as there are not many full track race series in Minnesota. These should be fun, budget friendly, competitive events. I'm already registered for the first event, and plan to make the rest of the events for the year also. The first event is on May 30th at BIR, and there is currently an early registration deal for only $235. Here is the complete list of events for 2015: #1 May 30th @ BIR #2 June 28th @ DCTC #3 September 26th @ BIR #4 September 27th @ BIR #5 October 10th @ DCTC I hope to see some fellow members at the track!
I wouldn't mind taking part of this. Though I need to see what's happening in my near future before I commit.
Lol definitely just one event at BIR. DCTC will be cheaper. Considering that a normal track day at BIR is $300 and you will likely get a ton of seat time at these events, $235 for BIR is a steal. Even the regular price at $255 isn't bad either.
I think the format they are going to try and use is 2 20 minute practice sessions in the morning and 6 timed laps in the afternoon. This will probably change dependent on the venue and number of participants. Lots of classing options. This should end up being not only a lot of fun, but a pretty good value for seat time. I don't know if they are making provisions for instructors at the events or not. (I would tend to be there will be instruction available)
There will be 20 minute warm-up sessions (no timing), followed by standing start competition runs. Are you actually going to compete?
Unfortunately I don't think there's currently a class for hybrid's like Porsche 918, McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari or my Prius So if I get involved it'll be indirectly. I can only assume the starting line will be at the drag strip starting line which will allow cars to stage up from the game and offer plenty of room to slow down the cars and end out of turn 9. That will offer maximum track utilization!
I hope to make it up there in September. I'd like to make it to some of the dctc events this year as well as I feel the brz is ready for these events this year. Question will be will I be
Run what you brung! You don't need any performance parts (nor a performance car for that matter) to have fun at the track...just a properly maintained one (ahem, brake fluid). (that note is more for the crowd that you )
That's because no one wants to get beat by a Prius. I'm not sure how Preston plans on running the track, but I will definitely mention the suggestion. Hope to see you at these events though!
Pretty sure they are using the competition course and starting from the pit lane, so you won't get to use the Christmas tree on the drag strip
I'd like to attend the May 30th event. I have never driven my car on a road coarse. Will there be instructors? Is this a good event for a first timer? Thanks
I don't believe there will be instructors, however I believe they will have a novice class - basically for those who want to try out the event and race against other novices. As for a good event for a first timer?...yes, the price is reasonable and you should get a lot of track time. However you might want to check out one of BIR's driving schools as a little bit better event for a first time. If you register for a BIR driving school through Track Time Motorsports, you will save some money as well. For selfish reasons, I obviously want enough people to register for this MN Time Attack event so that it actually happens...so you should definitely register!
Sounds good, I saw the novice class in the .pdf file from the website. I would just like someone to give me some basic instruction. I will most likely be registering for this event. The BIR driving school is only on weekdays so I can't make that work unfortunately.
I see. There will definitely be people there that can help with the logistics of the events, and I'm sure you could grab an experienced person to do some ridealongs with you and give you some pointers. They will cover the important stuff (like passing during the practice sessions) during the driver's meeting. I'd also highly recommend watching in car videos of the track on Youtube (sounds like we will be on the competition course). Watch them over and over and over again...that will give you at least an intro to the track layout.
@Ravi I'll also strongly recommend this event if you can make it...smaller track, lower speeds, instructors, weekend, and relatively cheap: http://mnsubaru.com/threads/sunday-april-12th-pdx-dctc-scca-sign-up.48740/ That would be a great event to get some seat time and more comfortable with your car.
TMF - I was just looking at the Audi Club Glacier Lakes, they have a HPDE May 15th weekend at BIR http://www.audiclubglacierlakes.org/events/hpde-driving-school-at-bir This looks like a perfect event for a novice. I'll try to make the event you linked on the 12th as well.
I believe there is a BIR Driving school the day before the time attack event (most are on Mondays, so a Friday event is pretty rare). My son is registered in the novice class and we are planning to do the driving school and ridealongs during the practice sessions Saturday morning.
They need to have 13 more people sign up to make this event happen...c'mon people, get signed up. Let's make it happen!
Car won't be ready for the first event...still need to crank out timing and some other minor issues. I will be attending September events assuming they go off.
Not yet, I'm limited by my intercooler...and injectors, fuel pump, and presumably BPV. So all of those will be next + a 4 bar MAP sensor. Yay! More money.
Ahh for sure. Bpv is prolly fine. E85 you need 1000+ cc injectors and whichever e85 pump is best/cheapest now (DW 65c?). IMO for your application (racing/autox) get a fmic. Don't bother with bigger tmic...the spool isn't worth the loss in cooling for the type of driving you will do.
