Minnesota Subaru Owners Club (MNSOC) was originally founded by members of MNSubaru.com to offer Minnesota Subaru enthusiasts additional opportunities for vendor discounts, swag, and social and motorsports events. Tides change, and we believe MNSubaru is now best equipped to offer most of these services better than MNSOC. Through feedback gathered from MNSOC and MNSubaru members, we believe the club is currently doing the opposite of its original goal -- and actually preventing growth and opportunities to Minnesota Subaru enthusiasts. As a result, we have decided to change the club so our sole and only focus is on motorsports events. In the coming weeks and months, we will be transitioning our contacts and discounts for swag and vendors to MNSubaru. We hope the hard work put forth by our officers on these items will continue to benefit the MNSubaru community as a whole for years to come. As MNSOC is a standalone legal entity, we believe MNSOC is uniquely situated to offer sanctioned motorsports events to Minnesota Subaru enthusiasts. It is our goal to continue to evaluate market conditions and poll MNSubaru members -- and if there is adequate desire from local enthusiasts -- move forward in laying the groundwork for organized motorsports events. As a result of these changes a number of officers have resigned their positions on the club officer board. We wish to thank these officers for their time and effort in serving the club to the best of their ability: Mark Utecht (President) Russ Spermbaur (Treasurer) Sheen Hua (Event Coordinator) In addition, MNSOC will be pausing intake of new memberships. We have also sent an email announcement to all active 2010 members outlining these changes and how we are processing requests for membership refunds. If you are a current 2010 MNSOC member and did not receive this email, please contact us at [email protected]. We also welcome constructive feedback from all MNSOC and MNSubaru members during this transition. Please contact us directly via the email above. -MNSOC Officers Board
I'm confused as to why Mark is stepping down now that the foucs is only on sanctioned motorsports events? I mean, that's kinda his whole deal. So with these changes who is in charge of what within mnsoc now?
My guess is Nate..... He's vice prez and up when the prez resigns. We're meeting in a week or 2 to hammer out some details. We'll make them public once we figure it all out.
To address your second question first: Well, with the departure of numerous officers and the change in club direction -- things are a bit at of standstill in terms of planning and development -- our previous roles and responsibilities are out the window and need revision. Us officers who are continuing on will be meeting within the next few weeks to discuss logistics, goals, and future options. If you, or anyone else reading is interested in being a part of this discussion and future development of the club, by all means PM any of the current officers (me, Tony, Brian, or Derek). We would love to involve as many people as possible in the future of MNSOC. As for Mark's departure -- I will leave it to him to share his thoughts and feelings as to why he stepped down himself. I will say that Mark has still offered to devote time and energy in to assisting with future MNSOC events, he has simply decided as this time to remove himself from the President role.
gotcha, well best of luck to mnsoc in it's new capacity - could be a really good thing for the local motorsports scene. also, rally rally rally
So... not to be an @$$ and rush anyone (appreciate that everyone is doing this out of their own time as volunteers  ), but in all fairness people who received the email about membership refunds it might be nice if some direction for MNSOC is hammered out prior to the Jul 1st deadline so people can make an informed decision on staying on or not. Having said that I really hope this works out and MNSOC can be a fun parallel venue to MNSUBARU, with cool motorsport events...
Sorry man -- I can tell you right now that there will not be any firm answers by that deadline. We're all very busy people and this is a drastic change in direction for the club. With that said, MNSOC members will not see any removal of benefits as all former MNSOC work is being transferred to MNSubaru.
Or, I will refund the 10 buks personally if you need it that bad. Let me know via PM and I will paypal the money to you personally. let me know! But to be honest, IMO no one's 10 buks will go to waste. Thanks -tonyM
As I stated in my previous post, I am not meaning to be obnoxious nor am I asking for my money back -I doubt anyone here will haggle with you over $10- and I certainly wasn't. The point I was trying to make -in the nicesest possible way- was that if people are given a deadline to make a decision, it would be cool if it was an informed one, that's all. I am curious about what sorts of events people had in mind, and hopefully some cool stuff comes of this.
And I am really trying to say in the nicest way. If you want a refund, we will have no problem giving you one. The changes with MNSOC are HUGE. And unfortunately will probably take longer than the current deadline to work out. If current members can hold out on a refund, it WILL be worth it. if not, you all will 100% have the right to re-join. lets be honest, We're talking a couple of buks. NOT 100's of dollars. SO, now that theres interest in what kind of events we'll be holding, we're looking at road rallys, autoX's, and co-sponsoring rallyX's. Also casual cruises. Like MNSOC will be giving prizes at the mnsubaru.com LAX cruise. GOOD STUFF! thanks! -tonyM
Yeah man, I totally see where you're coming from. Only reason there's a deadline for refunds is logistically and financially the club needs to set a deadline so we can move forward. Anyone and everyone is welcome to request theirs, we're offering them in order to be completely fair to all members. But like Tony says, our goal is to continue moving the club forward with events that everyone can enjoy. Just want to be completely honest that this may be a time consuming process at this point, however.
And in case you're unsure of who the officers are and their screennames: RexnEffect - Brian (moi) TonyM - Tony Bullwinkle - Nate ofspunk7 - Derek
The January event Sheen was planning in early 2010 was going to be on Lake Cynthia, but was canceled due to lack of interest. That is a good venue for ice racing, so it's on the radar.
I will take that recommendation.... maybe a Wendy's MNSOC Rally? I like where you are going with this carl!
