First off, I want to wish every a happy new year and I hope that everyone enjoyed their holidays with loved ones. With that said, I would like to lay out some of the future plans and changes for the group and the site. First thing that we will be re-enforcing is that MNSubaru will be a user driven site. Meaning, that it will be up to the end users (you guys/gals reading this) to make MNSubaru the place to be. As much as myself and the rest of the mod group would love to sit around and entertain everyone, we just don't have the time. What that means for everyone is that MNSubaru will hold 2-4 big events a year. We are currently hashing out what events and when these events will be. Everything over and above that will be user driven. That means if you want to have a cruise, go ahead and plan a cruise. If you want to have a cookout, a party, a shop night, a anything night, go ahead and plan it. The only time we (MNSubaru admin/mod group) needs to get involved is when the event will be using MNSubaru's name to make money for the site or as a charitable contribution. So if Ofspunk07 wants to have a MNSubaru snowboard night at Afton, he can set up the event and run with it. If Bielke55 and AWDImprezal want to have a general meet and greet at the dealership on night, go ahead on do it. All we ask is for you to follow the general rules (no underage drinking, follow all the rules of the road, etc) and let us know if you need our help or would like to use the MNSubaru name to help make money. And as a disclaimer, the names and events listen above are just examples. So at the end of the day, MNSubaru will still put together a few larger events (large cruise, dyno day, swap meet, etc). And once we have those events ironed out, we will post the details of what we have so far and look for a few volunteers to help out with each event. From there, most if not all the other events will have to be user driven by the members. These events can be as small or as large as the member wants them to be. And if you need help, we will help out as best as we can. The mod group is here to moderate the content on the site and not entertain everyone. And it kinda hurts to hear that people complain that we are not keeping everyone entertained when really, it is not our job to do so. I (personally) am also not a fan of the people who are still bashing the mod staff for putting together bad events and not keeping everyone happy. It is up the the membership to make MNSubaru what it is. Cliffs; MNSubaru will be member drive MNSubaru will hold 2-4 larger events though out the year MNSubaru is willing to help out for member created events Thank you Russ and the rest of the mod staff
And to add this to a different post, I think this could be a solid member driven event that I am currently working on. I propose that we have a monthly mini cruise. Nothing huge, but just a fun afternoon with a specific destination. These should not be in the "fun run" style of cruises, but more on the "lets check out the scenery" style of cruises. I have a couple of different ones in mind already, but this is the one that I currently am working on and will hopefully have a date/time in the next week or so. Casino cruise. Basically meet up in Forest lake and then take highway 8 up and through Taylors falls then over to state road 35 and up to Danbury WI. From there we can either hit up the hole in the wall casino or head over to Hinckley casino and stop in for the buffet for a little dinner and head into the casino for some gambling or just head home. Google maps shows this as being about 76 miles from the Target in Forest lake and about a 90 minute drive. I figure that we can cruise to either casino, eat at the buffet and kinda just go on our way from there. If people want to head home, it is a quick jump over to MN35 to head back to the cities, or just hang out and do some gambling. I have calls into each location to see if there is any kinda of group discount for the buffet and based off of that will choose what location we have lunch/early dinner at. And we can use this simple format for many other things. We can hit up TI and do the same thing, but just use all the twisty back roads to get there. Know of a good restaurant that is off the beaten path?? It can be as simple as find a backroads way to get there. And again, these are not meant to be "fun runs" or try to get everyone to go. I just want to get a few others that think this could be fun and drive on some back country roads that I haven't been on in years and stop off at the casino for a buffet dinner and a bit of gambling then head home. It is about getting a few of us together and driving the cars that brought us to this place to begin with. As I get the finishing details on my mini cruise, I will post them up in the event center. Russ
Anyone have anything to say on this?? I started the mini cruise idea here. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php/40939-Mini-casino-cruise I also have another 2-3 in the works. I am trying to find a nice restaurant in Red Wing and I am also going to look into maybe making a trip out to Chippewa Falls and do the Leinenkugals tour. Russ
One of my favorite roads close to Mpls is just outside of Red Wing. I assume most driving enthusiasts know about County 7 Blvd? Based on what I've seen on the road (M3's, super bikes, etc) I'm guessing it's not too much of a secret. I've always called it The Road to Welch. Any trip to Red Wing would not be complete without a cruse down this road.
