It's been a while since we've done this, it'd be great to get out and put some rounds downrange.

In the interest of those who have rifles that would like to do something more challenging than a 25yard range, lets head up to Bill's at Circle Pines again. That also gives us some extra room instead of trying to cram into the firing lanes at Robbinsdale.

We'll meet around 12pm to change things up a bit. For directions to Bills North, click here: http://billsgs.com/?page_id=9

We would love to have new shooters and/or people who don't own guns to come with and learn how to shoot. We're very low key but safety oriented and we're more than willing to help new shooters. Our previous trips to the range have been a lot of fun and we usually get a good turnout of shooters.

For those of you who don't own guns, Bill's has a great rental selection to choose from.

    I will be bringing:

Lewis Machine and Tool CQB MRP - 5.56mm
    Mossberg 590A1 - 12ga
    Remington 870 Police Magnum - 12ga
    Glock 34 - 9mm
    Kimber TLE II - .45ACP
    Kimber Rimfire Target - .22LR
    Ruger 10/22 - .22LR
    Sig Sauer P229 - .357SIG
    Sig Sauer Mosquito - .22LR

If you can make it, post up in the thread and let me know what you'll be bringing.

    See you there!

So is this date set?? If so, I will add it to the calendar on the front page. I might even try and make it out to the event.

Bump for some blasting this Saturday.

For those of you looking for ammo, I've been seeing some decent prices at Sportsmans Guide, Gander Mountain and Wal-Mart. Cabelas also has some decent deals, depending on what caliber you're looking for.

It's funny because I'm looking into picking up a .22 ruger mkIII within the next month and now this thread gets bumped and I notice it. Unfortunately I work 11-8 Saturday so I'm not going to be able to make it, but I'll definitely be looking forward to the next one :)

Kimber makes nice 1911s in .45ACP.......or go big with the S&W .500 i believe.

^^^A 1911 will find a home in my safe someday. I've just got an itch for a "big" revolver right now and have actually considered one in .45 acp for the compatibility in ammo with a 1911. I think it's the Dirty Harry thing telling me to go .44 magnum. .454, .460, .500 are all cool but just seem a bit too exotic for me.

For "big" revolvers hard to beat a .357 - still plenty of presence and hot .357 loads are insanely powerful but you can still throw .38s in it if you don't fell like loading the cylinders with dollar bills.

    Powerwise, I'd put a .357Mag above .45ACP.

I know you've already got one Ben, but a larger .357Mag revolver isn't half bad idea. Smith and Wesson has their TRR-8 and a couple of other similar models that are pretty badass. The .45ACP revolvers are pretty cool too. A .44Mag is fun to shoot, as Nosser said they can get a bit spendy.

Taurus makes some inexpensive revolvers that have a great reputation as well. If I were going for a revolver right now, it'd likely be a full size .357 or a .460XVR in case the Germans come...in tanks.

^^^hmmm maybe a full size .357 would compliment the "little" one. I shot the .460XVR at the shooters show and it was pretty awesome.

Couldn't agree more. ACP out of a 1911 is like 9mm out of anything all metal - minor recoil. .357 makes you feel special. I haven't shot any exotics other than a couple of clips of .50AE and the flexibility of a .357 far outweighs them in my mind.

    But I'm cheap...

Yeah, when it comes to badassery, there is no comparison. A .45ACP 1911 doesn't hold a candle to a .357 or .44 revolver. Especially a full sized one. If you want big noise and big knockdown power, you definitely go for the big revolver.

Personally, I'd love a nice silver fullframe Raging Bull 44mag. That thing just looks pissed off.

^^^^That's been my wallpaper/motivation for about the last month. I've read some unfavorable reviews of the taurus revolvers (gun snobbery?) Could they really be built so cheap they wouldn't work for a handful of range days of outta the year?

Excellent! It'll be great to have more people out there.

This is the revolver that's on my list:
    http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...57774_757767_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y

Ben, I've heard decent things about the Taurus revolvers. I know a couple guys who carry their new 1911s on duty and they've been great so far. I think it would be a safe bet. Where did you see the negatives on them?

^^^Glad to hear that, I'll poke around and see if I can find some of my findings. I've been doing some searches on random gun sites(not sure which ones) it hasn't been overwhelming but it's mostly been "cheap" guns/build quality. Also talked to a guy at Capras down the road from me and he said he'd take a Smith/Ruger over a Taurus any day. That being said I'm not looking for anything other than a big bad toy that doesn't break the bank so I figured the raging bull would do that. As far as that R8, it's sexy:yumyum: a bit more of a gun than I want but damn nice.

I think they've got one for rental. I've fired the .44Mag DE before. About what you'd expect...Big, unwieldy and decent recoil. Big boom, though.

Speaking of booms, I want to apologize in advance for whoever is in the stall next to mine while my LMT is being fired. It has a bit of a bang to it.
