During the Lake Calhoun meet tonight it sounded like we've got enough interest to get one of these going again. So...let's do it!

When: Saturday, May 19th starting at 9am.
Where: Bill's Gun Shop, Circle Pines MN ( www.billsgs.com )
Who can come: Anyone! Doesn't matter if you're a gun owner or not, or even if you've ever shot before you're more than welcome to come out. You can rent a gun at Bills or if you arrange it beforehand you can use the firearms that other people are bringing. We've had plenty of people with experience ranges from novice to well trained and everything in between.

For those of you who are planning on coming, just post up how many you'll be bringing and you can also post up what you'll be bringing so if someone would like to try something they can arrange that beforehand. It's usually expected that if you're wanting to try something to help share the cost of ammo or targets, etc.

I'm also willing to help out if you've never fired a gun before to get you started off in a low key (but still safe) environment to help you get comfortable with it. PM me if you're interested. I try to keep it to a couple of people on days like this otherwise it can be a bit overwhelming.

We usually get a good turnout for this, so getting there early is crucial to making sure we get lanes. Hope to see both the usual crew and some new faces!

You are more than welcome to shoot either of mine if they interest you! 9mm rounds are about $12-14/50 rounds, the .22 is around $4/100 rounds.

^I'd have to pick up 2-3 jobs to afford shooting those! lol. My least favorite thing about my 9mm is the fact that i can run through $50-60 in no time. Makes going to the range pretty damn expensive!

And you are more than welcome to give the Sig a go!;) 1050 .22 rounds for $36 ftw!

Lol...i've shot a few big guns before and that's about right. Few shots and you're done. I prefer something that i can shoot alot. I usually run about 300-400 rounds through the Sig when i go, and about 100-200 rounds through the 9mm. Then i'm usually good for a week or two before i need to go to the range again to cure/treat the IFS..."Itchy Finger Syndrome".

ya you will have to throw a few down range on both the eagle and 500 mag i usually go through 100 or so with each gun....except the ar that thing i go 200-500 lol so much fun to shoot

Meh, i appreciate the offer! But honestly, a .40 is about as big as i care to shoot anymore. Aside from leaving a bigger hole in the target, they don't really do anything for me. I've shot a 50 cal before and once in my lifetime was honestly enough. They're kind of like high horsepower Subarus, never had interest. lol. I went out with a buddy of mine and he brought his 357 and his 45...i shot the 357 and only squeezed off 3 rounds and then handed it back to him. Didn't even try the 45 after that.:uhhuh:

I WOULD like to try Chong's new XDm .40 Pro Series though!

    Josh, a .45ACP kicks a lot less than a .357Mag revolver.

I'll let you try my HK45c, I think you'll like it.

I thought so. I saw an episode of Auction Hunters and they were in Alaska. They bought a storage unit with a SW 500 in it. The rounds were huge! I'll need double ear protection while watching ya shoot that one! lullz

His was a 45 revolver. Either way, watching him shoot it, it was more bang than the 357, so i passed.

    Nope.

Some Austrian firm came up with a revolver chambered in .600 Nitro Express. Not sure why you'd need something like that unless you wanted to simulate what it'd be like to fire a howitzer with both hands. The .460XVR revolver by Smith and Wesson is also more powerful than the .500, but comparing the differences is rather moot.

It may have been a .45 Long Colt revolver, that'll have some more oomph to it than a .45ACP.

not true the 500 is bigger though the 460 has high velocity... that Australian pistol is not in mass production yet...but when i find one lol its mine!!! as far as round size and power the 500 is biggest has over 1.5 tons of muzzle velocity or so i have been told by my gunsmith lol

Well i'd maybe be down to give it a go. Like i said tho, i like the comfort of shooting the 9mm and the .22. They are plenty for the range and are cheaper than most to shoot on a regular basis for me. And without affordability, i wouldn't be going to the range at all with my unemployed status! And the 9mm is juuuuust affordable, it's almost too damn spendy to shoot also. But man i love shooting it!

I never said bigger. I said more powerful. Size isn't everything.

The .500 does have an edge if you're handloading as you can get bullets in the 6-700 grain weight, but I'd recommend mounting the gun to something solid before shooting it. A surplus tank would be a good start. However, for factory loadings the .460XVR typically has more energy.

    .460XVR:
    http://www.buffalobore.com/index.ph...[full_desc]=Y&s[sku]=Y&s[match]=all&s[cid]=28

    .500:
    http://www.buffalobore.com/index.ph...[full_desc]=Y&s[sku]=Y&s[match]=all&s[cid]=19

Wikipedia has them neck and neck, with a slight edge to the .500 but since muzzle energy has enough variables (bullet weight, barrel length, etc) that it's a tie. Handloading will throw everything out the window.

That .600 is Austrian, not Australian. 18k and it's all yours. You can also go with the Thompson Contender in .600 Nitro, but good luck holding onto it. A 6lb gun and a hunting rifle cartridge do not go well together.

yea sorry answered on my ipad damn auto type ya again its finding one hahaha i do hand load my 500 for when we go to the farm and shoot lol the range doesnt really like my hand loaded rounds haha that Austrian is mean though haha but not mass produced like the 500 so its a pain to even find on to shoot the .460 does have more velocity but its still not a 500 haha

As usual I'm sure I'll make it(Katie too) and maybe +1.

I'll likely be bringing the handguns

-Big (XDm fullsize 4.5") and little (XD subcompact 3") both in .40 s&w
-Big 1911(SA Range Officer 5") and little(Kimber ultra carry 3") both in .45 ACP
I'll bring the 380 LCP too if anyone wants to try a tiny gun with a crappy trigger and no real sights

    S&W Revolvers
-Big(N frame 44 Magnum 5") and little(J frame .357/.38 with crimson trace laser)

FYI if you're planning on bringing your own targets you may want to bring some tape. They've since changed some things there and you'll no longer have access to a staple gun, and you'll have to purchase a cardboard if you choose to. So if you have small 6" targets like me you'll want to come prepared. I'll also be bringing a monocular and laser pointer for long range practice shots.
