Mod a 09' VW Wagon jetta sport to 3rd Row? Anyone done this before? any laws against it? 1. reinforce bumper 2. reinforce wheel well area for feat area (droped down) 3. Install 2 person bench seat rear facing with lap belts 4. match interior on new 3rd row bench seat.
good idea. but good luck finding them. they're getting extremely rare! not to mention, extremely uncomfortable.
I think I can figure out how to do it, If anyone has done somthing like it before and had some ideas or suggestion to make it go more smoothly that would be great. also are there and legality issue as it hasn't been crash test with a 3rd row. Or dose it not really matter?
No offense man but I don't see the point. Aren't you risking the life of your passengers by putting them in the crumple zone of the vehicle in an accident? Do yourself a favor and buy a car that has a third row.
This^. I heart t3h SHOz. Have a friend in VT that has a pole shed of donors but just one that runs. Maroon baby.

If I were you, I would not attempt it. First, you would need seats and headrests that will support your body in the event of a crash. Since the seat will be stopping you, it will need to be much beefier than a forward facing seat. Second, where are you going to mount it? Drill holes in the floor and bolt it in? The seat will rip right out of the floor in a crash. Serious reinforcements would need to be welded in, and done carefully as to not re-anneal too much sheetmetal around it. The best bet would be to get pieces of factory sheetmetal and spot weld them in where your mounting points will be. Third, what about seat belts? Where are they going to go? The same problem from the seat mounting applies here as well. Lastly, it would be quite uncomfortable if you had to sit with your legs extended straight forward for more than a little bit.
For brace of seats and lap belts I would use a support bar from the frame across to the other side of the car. The Floor where you feet would go will be cut out and boxed. It would be designed for my kids. Small people. Based on safety concerns I have, I don't think this option will work. I'm Looking at the Mercedes 3 row wagon or the Volvo Wagon (07 volvo's or older as the third row is no longer available in newer models )
Toyota highlander has a third row, Chevy Trailblazer has a third row, Subaru Tribeca has a third row, ford edge has a third row ...
Yes, I know. What I like is the handling that a car gives you over a SUV. I already have a Dodge Durango for my 7 passenger SUV but its hard to get the kids into the car seat in the back with out folding the seats down and climbing into the vehicle or What we have been doing is putting the three car seats in the center row but with no easy way of getting to the back seats since they don't fold down with the car seats. The fusion is my favorite of the above options but the Mercedes or the Volvo have more of what I want. My drive way is so step I need AWD its crazy in the winter :ugh: When Ron from RS Motors came to my house last week for a final adjustment on my car he slipped on the driveway grabbed the car to catch him self and the car started sliding down the driveway. The good news is, it only went like 10 feet.
A Good option for when the 7 passanger is too small. I looking for the Mercedes or Volvo to end up being my DD and then the big Van! Maybe slightly lowered.
