Ron and the crew would like to invite us out for our very own mnsubaru mod day at RS Motors. Date: Saturday March 5th Time: 10 am-5ish Place: RS Motors 2611 hwy 13 w Burnsville MN, 55337 http://local.yahoo.com/info-30978843-rs-motors-burnsville Details: This event is provided for those of us that want/need to do some simple mods. Little stuff like brakes, cat back install, maybe a downpipe, a car wash here and there. Just easy stuff. Please don't ask if you can spend the day playing with the dyno or getting free turbo swaps etc. There will be a lift open as well as the rest of the shop area. Ron and Matt(bikerboy) will be offering their tools for use *Please remember that everything will go back where it belongs. If you can't respect other peoples stuff don't bother asking to use it. There will be an area available for washing cars-I'm not sure of the details of said area but will find out and update this post. Rules: - Most importantly SAFETY FIRST. if you are unsure about the safest way to do something just ask. - If you come and want help, you HAVE to get your hands dirty on someone else's car and help others. - Bystanders are encouraged to pitch in-- you might even learn a thing or two. - PLEASE prioritize installs; if you have a long list, please consider cutting it down. We don't want anyone to get shafted because one person got greedy. If you don't cut it down, the group might cut it down for you. -Food donations are encouraged. Small price for free work and tools. Maybe pitch in for pizza or something. *post some ideas of some work you'd like done and I'll do my best to keep an update list. remember just cause you post that you'd like something done does not gaurantee that you will indeed get that done. We will do our best to make sure as many people possible get a chance to join in on the fun. Install list: -idget- install some carpet, move ecu maybe tie rod end -MrMcMonkey- bushings and whatnot -SurleyOldManMN- downpipe?????? -SubaruKid-rotors and calipers -xluben-with some peer pressure maybe some injectors? -eterenity11-might just do inlet and AOS....... -retreif-Downpipe, BCS and a boost gauge? sway bar? -badbennyb-maybe mototr mounts? -Tangled-hang out maybe install some stuff -Buddyswagon-few bushings and what not maybe a couple gauges - Feel free to ask questions/comment.
sounds awesome, i dont have anything that i need to work on (as of right now) but i would be willing to come down and help others out/ chip in for food. this is a huge outreach and i hope noone takes negative advatage of it!
:raising hand: Sounds like a great idea! I need to install some carpet and relocate the ecu on the RS (extend wires and mount it to the dash beam). Might do a tie rod end if I don't get to it before then. It would be awesome to not have to do it in my snowy alley lol. I'd be happy to work on whatever as well.
Subscribing. Most likely won't have a car to "share" by then, but may have free time to show up and help out.
so we're going to pull the engine out of the rally car and paint the engine bay? ok, sounds good to me
Sure Nobody has any maintenance or mod needs? I may have to buy something just to give us something to tinker on.
I have a downpipe coming out of fab in the next week or two here. Question is, can I wait that long to put it on. hmmmmm....
I need a new clutch and figured I'd try to get a new uppipe then too...probably too big of a job though lol.
Im down for installing some front rotors and calipers Just gotta get them painted and turned. does RS have a rotor turner?
Awesome!! What wonderful people!! Rs!! I have a long list but 1 0r 2 things would be super!! Fmic conversion, injectors, ATP turbo, header uppipe, clutch flywheel, flame thrower kit.. I can supply beer and pizza!!! Lol...
I'm thinking of installing injectors sometime in the future, and I have been apprehensive of going at it on my own. But I am leaning towards waiting until summer to do that install. Hopefully they'll do something like this again, because it would be great to have the extra tools and knowledge around when I go for the install.
This sounds like a good candidate! by fmic conversion do you mean you already have a front mount and want to go from stock location turbo to rotated? Or do you mean you have a tmic and want to install a fmic? Honestly, if it were me doing the install, I'd want to do most (if not all) of those things at the same time... and it would take all day. Injectors are easy, go for it! Just be ready to have it tuned.
i can come and lend a hand nothing really to do on the car at this point that i can think of unless i get my new set of struts in by then.,
Sounds a bit labor intensive Maybe pick a thing or two. This may be stretching the simple mods thing. *everyone please keep in mind there is no promises that all your work can/will get done. We want to help out as many people as possible so if a job is considered to big we may have to pass. Matt and Ron really have the final say on what can or can't be done.
this would be awesome especialy since my bday is on the first i was thinking of maybe getting an ems so maybe i could have some of the vets help me out or i could just come by and maybe lend a hand if need be
That's the plan (tune right after). That's why I am hoping to wait until it's a bit warmer out. I am worried about the "bracket of death." I've seen a few 08+ owners go for it only to find they don't have all the required tools to reach some of the bolts, and they end up having to cut the bracket off
I'll have to see what Matt thinks about some of the work when he chimes in next, but remember once again. Details: This event is provided for those of us that want/need to do some simple mods. Little stuff like brakes, cat back install, maybe a downpipe, a car wash here and there. Just easy stuff. Please don't ask if you can spend the day playing with the dyno or getting free turbo swaps etc. This really isn't just a day where RS is gonna drop the shop rate to "free" and build cars for everyone. As far as tuning and that sorta thing the best bet is to call Ronnie and schedule something. There was a day like this for the evo guys recently and it looked to mostly be bushings, a gauge or two, seat lowering brackets etc.....I'm not comfortable saying yes to anything that could turn into a real "project"
nice offer guys... I tried this once and well... a lot of people left without getting stuff done due to others deciding that they would jump the cue and throw on larger items... please dont ruin a great opportunity from a good shop by being douches....!!
Well this has taken quite a turn. Last I checked in it sounded like I would have to cancel it due to lack of interest. As others have said this is not a come install all your supporting parts for your 35R you want to put on. This is an offer for people to come in and use the shop to install a couple of parts and help others do the same. Figure that you can have your car on the lift for an hour and that includes moving it in and out and out of the way of others. So figure you have 45minutes or so to work on your car with help from some friends on the lift. If you don't need to use the lift then you can use one of the three open spaces to do things like Sheen posted that he wants to change carpet.
EvoMN has done quite a few of these, we started in various garages, and our most recent one last month as at RS. Definitely a great facility, lots of room for multiple cars, and as far as I know everyone got their stuff (mostly) done, despite a few snags. It's one of those things that as long as you use your best judgment everyone will get their shop time. Washing cars was done right inside the garage door.
Tmic to fmic.. I was guessin it'd take all day and yess I was thinking doing everythin all @ once.. " was the advice Ronnie gave me also.. Dt wanna be greedy wif takin all the spots tho.. Haha .. But lmk wat I can do.. Love it!!
Me and Dave (Scuba Steve) replaced injectors on my 08 with basic tool but it took some time even with experienced installer. If you never done injectors before on Subaru it might take you 4-6 hours. It's not hard but time consuming plus needs tune right away.
Probably not if the right hands are doing the job, I think it's doable. Keep in mind I'm no expert though.
I'm going to schedule it so I can get tuned right away. I'll be looking more into it before I decide whether I should try it myself. What all did you have to pull out on the driver's side? Downpipe is the only one that needs the lift. The other two would just need some parking lot space.
Thank you RS Motors! And benny I'll make it down for this! I shouldn't have anything to do after all that they just did for me at RS, lol, but i do have a set of shifter bushings that could go in. Might still have an oil temp sensor to install in the block too.
I had to take out battery, oil fill tube and I think intercooler. On the passenger side you will need to take coolant reservoir and some coolant lines that go to the turbo.
Anyone else looking to hang out and get your hands dirty? I do have some group n motor mounts sitting in my toolbox. Don't really care if I get aound to them or not but it's something to do if needed.
I'm tentative since my radiator blew up (quite literally) in my face. I'm hoping to have it done within a week or two but it all depends on what I can get my hands on I'll keep you updated as I make (or don't make lol) more progress
^^^I'd say bring it with and if theres time it'll get done. It's really hard to tell how much interest people have in this event so far.
Are non-Subaru vehicles welcome? I may be picking up a downpipe for my turbo Miata and would love help installing it...
I'm down to help with the miata, on another note I wanted to throw my exhaust hangers on, as well as try to repair a wire from the sender to my oil pressure gauge.
^^^Sounds doable. I could be wrong but I'm sure being a member of mnsubaru will get you "in" even with a Miata. I have NO clue what kinda job that dp is but if you think it's doable I'm guessin it should be no problem.
